John Campea's comments are very insightful and this movie sounds very interesting. I actually know someone who tried to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm not an expert on the matter, but I'm thinking most of these people don't really want to kill themselves and they're just crying for help, hoping somebody will notice and talk to them.

I don't have a problem with the fact this movie was made. But I can't help feeling something is wrong with a director going to a bridge expecting to see people kill themselves and then sitting there filming it. I remember that this was the reason for the controversy about it being filmed. These suicides were not captured by accident but by a man with a purpose. I think I remember reading that the crew did do "everything they could" to stop people jumping but they werent set up to prevent people jumping and if they had then their film wouldn't have been possible.

Also I think I read that the people interviewed were not informed about the fact the director had filmed their loved ones jumping, or about the nature of the ducomentary. I can't help but feel the whole project, however insightful, was somewhat manipulative.

I don't want to start a debate about people's rights to kill themselves (although I do think people should be given the chance to change their mind if possible - stopping them once will not make it impossible for them to do so in future)

I dont know, I just find this one disturbing because of its implications.

As someone that suffers from depression, I can understand when someone feels enough pain that they want it to end. The really sad thing is that these people don't trust (or feel they can't trust) anyone to talk about their problems. In this day and age when we're all supposed to care about humanity, I think there's too many people that "act" more than "are" actual, caring people. The sad reality of Western culture. We're too busy with our lives, to pay attention to those secretly suffering beside us.

The film looks interesting, and I wonder how the people that were interviewed took it when someone actually tells them he video-taped their loved ones' jumps, instead of running to stop them.

That was a well-done trailer.

As one who has been suicidal most of my life (no you don't have to call the cops at the moment), I can tell you that the pain you feel from living is so extreme that the only way you can see to leave the pain behind is to kill yourself. The only reason I didn't kill myself when my depression was at its worst was because therapists convinced me that it was important for me to stay alive for my kids. Suicide is apparently catching, and I had no desire to inflict it on my kids. That would have been the ultimate form of abandonment. I kept their well being constantly in my mind during the years that it took to recover from constant suicidal ideation, and eventually I felt better.

It would be interesting for me, who's been there, to see this film. I would most likely mourn each life lost, and mourn for the families, but if I felt that intense pain again, it wouldn't prevent me from ending it all.
