Also I think I read that the people interviewed were not informed about the fact the director had filmed their loved ones jumping, or about the nature of the ducomentary. I can’t help but feel the whole project, however insightful, was somewhat manipulative.

I don’t want to start a debate about people’s rights to kill themselves (although I do think people should be given the chance to change their mind if possible – stopping them once will not make it impossible for them to do so in future)

I dont know, I just find this one disturbing because of its implications.

The film looks interesting, and I wonder how the people that were interviewed took it when someone actually tells them he video-taped their loved ones’ jumps, instead of running to stop them.

As one who has been suicidal most of my life (no you don’t have to call the cops at the moment), I can tell you that the pain you feel from living is so extreme that the only way you can see to leave the pain behind is to kill yourself. The only reason I didn’t kill myself when my depression was at its worst was because therapists convinced me that it was important for me to stay alive for my kids. Suicide is apparently catching, and I had no desire to inflict it on my kids. That would have been the ultimate form of abandonment. I kept their well being constantly in my mind during the years that it took to recover from constant suicidal ideation, and eventually I felt better.

It would be interesting for me, who’s been there, to see this film. I would most likely mourn each life lost, and mourn for the families, but if I felt that intense pain again, it wouldn’t prevent me from ending it all.
