I see similarities but not a rip off. Those are ideas and ideas are one thing that is not copyrighted. Star Wars use plenty of ideas from other sources aswell and the story itself is based on Hero’s Journey from Campbell acording to Lucas.

Futhermore most of those similarities make little to no sense at all.

Voldemort is NOT Darth Vader. Vader was Palpatine’s Dragon (see tv tropes) all while Voldemort is the Evil Overlord of HPverse akin to Sidious in SW.

Comparing qudditch to blowing a Death Star is like comparing apples to oranges. Also comparing the Empire to Slytherin is dumb aswell. Slytherin is no “evil forces” and much more of Harry (not the good guys but Harry and his friends alone) antagonists. The evil forces are the Death Eater and the Ministry at times.

I a ma huge Star Wars fan and an even bigger Harry Potter fan, and they are not similar at all. You faked that document to make it connect the way you want to, and you are sick for doing so.

Hmmm, some people are taking this OBVIOUS joke a little too seriously. Those of you who are getting all high and mighty about it being an “obvious forgery” are missing the point. THIS IS A MEANT TO BE A JOKE! I love HP and certainly don’t think its a ripoff but i was chilled enough to read this, have a laugh, and not go “ZOMG obvious forgery how could you blah blah blah, rant rant rant”. And George Lucas “ripped off” The Iliad, The Odyssey, Beowulf, The Aeneid, The Ramayana, Gilgamesh, The Song of Roland, King Arthur, The Lord of the Rings…you name it.
The “hero” story has been rewritten thousands of times. All modern writers have been influenced by great hero writing of the past – not just J. K. Rowling – but also George Lucas. Other stories like Indiana Jones and The Matrix also take from earlier hero legends.
Let’s give credit where credit is due. Homer and the great poets of ancient times originated the hero epic. Credit should be given to George Lucas and J. K. Rowling for their creative takes on the hero legend.

Ok…………..Everyone has a point…as far as the rip-offs go!!! Every story derives from the same basic principals. The epic poem The Odyssey is a the foundation for all of these works. Odysseus is (Luke, Harry, or whomever else) He fights at Troy (middle earth, a distant galaxy, the death star, Hogrwarts, Alagaesia, many more…) Here he must overcome the stronghold which is the city of Troy (The death star, Lord Voldemort, King Galbatorix, Sauron,…..) With the help of friends like Achilles, Ajax, and the geek army ( Hobbits, Ron, Hermoine, Han Solo,….) He fights evil….. there is also an identified power or “Force” Magic, an Evil Ring, or Gods in the case of Odysseus.

It is the struggles between good and evil the story of the hero who can take the easy way out and give in to evil, or chooses to fight it and in the end be rewarded for it. All of our heroes must partake in some sort of coming of age journey. They must not only defeat the anti-hero within the story, but also defeat the inner demons within themselves.

What makes these stories so popular is not their originality , but their ability to connect to a multitude of individuals. I for one enjoy these stories. I do not see them as rip-offs, rather unique dipictions of the human experience.
