Watched this movie for the first (and last) time tonight on DVD. Wow. I’m sorry, but why am I filled with this murderous rage all of a sudden? Could be because this film deepthroated and then snaggletoothed hard all the way back up?!?!?!?!! Wow, again, I can’t beleive Cage could have sunk to such a preponderous low. How much did they have to pay him to play this part? And the women in the movie: how does one surmise that despite being so cunning and dominating they still manage to seriously dingus things up by killing their one-and-only means of transportation, provisioning, etc? Didn’t the pilot mention he had to make daily trips out there at the beginning? Not a very logistically sound decision to do him in as well as his plane!

Horrible movie. Not worth the money used to rent it. Knowing now that it didn’t hit the screening room before the box office makes a helluva lotta sense from the producer’s perspective of course!!

in movie history… this can’t be worse even if they tried
Not showing to critics have never been any mark how good movie will be, that too is complately bogus of course..

It follows the original “fairly closely”? Dude, are we seeing the same trailer? Just from the trailer, let’s have a look at how close it is to the original:

– The same tone? The original had happy dancing people, a song every five minutes and a humourless Christian copper. I see no singing here, all I see is miserable and tortured Nic Cage (why do big actors love playing miserable and tortured so much?) running around chasing things in dark barns and sewers.
– Big explosive car crash? Didn’t see that in the old one.
– The cop as a tortured haunted-looking dude? No. It’s not the same character. And naming him Edward and the girl Rowan Woodward is about the clumsiest reference they could have possibly done. Sorry, it’s just poo.
– Biggest change: Rowan’s mother as some skinny weepy-eyed bitch in tight clothes. “Don’t believe anything they tell you” she says. Why not just write in the letter “Oh, yeah, and look out for the massive twist at the end!” In the original the cop was completely alone, now they’ve made this bitch into a sappy love interest.
– The cop is seeing ghosts now? Seriously?

They’ve just retarded the movie up and put a star in it. The trailer is dark and whispery enough to make it an inoffensive date movie and that’s all it seems to be aiming for. It’ll come out, get 2 out of 5s, do fairly well at the box office and then we can all forget it ever happened. Cage gets a horror movie on his resume and he gets to be miserable and tortured some more. 8mm with a ghost and a twist. Whoopee.

I dunno man… this is the first Cage project in a long long time that has me interested. The fact that it is a Lion’s Gate film and that LaBute is the director makes me want to see it all the more. I enjoyed the original a lot, and the trailer looks like they are going to follow it fairly closely, and it seems to have the same tone as the original. I don’t listen to critics, ever. if the studios know the critics are just gonna slag then flim, then why should they bother pre-screening it? Besides, I think critics look for something different in a film that the average film-goer does… anyhow, i choose for myself what i will or will not watch. I am not a lemming… i can march off a cliff alone :o)

Cowboys for Christ is Robin Hardy’s (the original writer and director of the wickerman) project , nothing to do with the Neil LaBute movie which stars Nic Cage.

uh… imdb has the official title of the remake as “COWBOYS FOR CHRIST”…. someone please tell me… please… that NO ONE is stupid enough to release a movie with that title.

i see… i see a marketing campaign similar to SNAKES ON A PLANE, where the movie poster has clip art cowboys riding into the sunset… which is eclipsed by a clipart cross… which is wrapped up by two snakes…

Seeing the trailer for this made me want to see… the original. I never saw it but I think I’m going to just rent it. Anyways, a movie about a little girl who goes missing and the person looking for her finds themself in a town full of religious wackos. Hmmmm. I think I saw that, its called Silent Hill. AJ, the last remake i can think of that worked is True Lies. The original is a bag of S-H-I-T!!!!

The original is the best musical about dancing farmers I’ve ever seen. Damn good film but not entirely what I expected.

The trailer for this remake sucks balls. I used to be a fan but Nicolas Cage hasn’t done anything remotely interesting in a very long time. After his great Face/Off and Snake Eyes period he went into a shitty rom-com (Corelli), borderline self-parody (Matchstick Men) and The Most Retarded Movie Of All Time (National Treasure). All downhill now. The most predictable actor of his generation? I reckon. Well even though World Trade Center looks like a ridiculous piece of shit at least we got more National Treasure to look forward to.

… It does how ever show a lack of confidence in the film from the studio, if they thought it was great they would be more than pleased to have critics view it so the film could be hyped by positive reviews!
