Eminem To Star In “Have Gun Will Travel”

Well, stupidity reigns in Hollywood folks. And here is yet another example. Famous Non-Actor Eminem (a fine musical artist… but he’s not an actor), has just been signed by Paramount Pictures to star in the film adaptation of the 50’s Western TV show “Have Gun WIll Travel”.

I’ll spare you from my whole rant on this… I’ll just say that yet again, a non-actor is getting a lead role in a motion picture instead of a real actor who has spent their whole lives studying the art and perfecting their craft as actors. Seriously, I don’t know that any other Hollywood issue makes me as sick. And what’s even worse, is that there are mindless Eminem fan drones out there who are all going to think this is great news… just because they like his music.

Look, I love U2.. but don’t you dare give Bono a lead role in a film unless it’s a documentary.

Rant over.

  1. I don’t see how people can say 8mile was a piece of shit, obviously me being an Eminem fan would make me naturally like it more.

But I don’t like the gangsta image, it’s pathetic and that’s why I like Eminem, he’s not like other rappers, that’s why he’s sold more.

It’s funny when people say he sold because he’s white… yeh must be why Vanilla Ice is still doing great (coff!)

Anyway, I thought 8mile was good not AMAZING but a good film, good acting, good script and actually I thought Eminem was a great actor in it and I’m not just saying that because I like his music, I am a huge acting snob and I’m only 16 lmao!
I can’t watch bad acting, it makes my skin crawl but I thought Eminem was a fantastic actor and he will get better. That was his first film.

The fact he can act that well and make quality music is great, Rob De Niro is an absolute legend and a pure class actor but I’d like to see him become a lyricist over night.

Also alot of people misunderstood 8mile, Eminem did not play himself, it was a kind of semi-biography but further than that.
As one of his friend comfirmed only about 5% actually is true.

The film is about the struggle of life in an urban city and human desperation and daily exploration.

But of course people who don’t like rap or the art of ryming lyricism will naturally say it’s shit even if subconsciously they loved it, because they will have a natural biest against the movie if they don’t like the nature of it.

Just like if I went to watch Britney Spears in a movie I would hate it before I went in.

Besides which it’s all opinion, there is no such thing as a ‘good movie’ or a ‘bad movie’ definitively because that’s what opinion is.

Also you shouldn’t pre-judge, it doesn’t sound great to me even being an Eminem fan, but he’s been turning down scripts for years and everything he does is quality and he always keeps his integrity.

He could of sold out and pandered to the music industry. But he didn’t.
He could of done 100 goofy comedy’s as a dumb gangsta like ice cube.
    But he didn’t.

I’m pretty sure this will be good if he’s agreed to do it.

  2. You know what you guys are being totaly bias, discrimination. Eminem is an awesome rapper but you guys dont listen to him half you havent prbably seen 8 Mile its actually a dam good movie. I’m not only going to see this movie because im a huge fan but it is different. Eminem isnt playing the role of a rapper hes like a fricken bounty hunter. I dont see you ppl being signed to play in the movie so obviosly hes better than you guys. If Brad Pitt was playing him it would be the same quality awesome… Open your eyes for something new not the same actor bullshit and you should get out more often.

  3. Let’s take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard.

I see valid points all around. John feels a legitamite, established actor should play Paladin or an unknown non-muscician. I don’t think anyone who has touched an instrument or mike should be banned from acting. That’s not only rediculous but claims that you’re only allowed to be good at one thing. I can walk damn fine but I shouldn’t swim because I haven’t been to… fish school and gotten the right to wear fins? Emiem’s a damn good writer/artist and time will tell if he can be a worthy actor. He doesn’t need to wait tables or go to acting school to realise that. Just like if he sucks like a hoover vacumn i this remake no amount of Grammys will save his ass from a lashing by the critics. If he bites he should never be allowed to touch a script again and if he doesn’t let the man act. He’s not hurting anyone. If he has it, he has it.

Larry thinks Eminem’s too… Eminem to play the role of Paladin. If you want to be technical, Paladin’s character was a graduate of West Point, liked opera, and lived in the old west. The 2008 movie version will be based on modern times and most likely set in Detroit. Apples and oranges. They both taste good but in the end, they’re different things and can’t really be compared. Also, if Eminem’s an actor it doesn’t matter if the role he’s supposed to play is a man that’s supposed to be wise and worldly. I don’t think Christian Bale has ever killed anyone but he made me believe he was Patrick Bateman. That’s why it’s called acting.

I don’t think we should base Em’s acting ability on 8 Mile, either. The movie was okay and deserved the Oscar for best Original Score but there’s a reason it won best Original score and not best picture. The movie was okay. It was by no means a meter in which to test Eminem as an actor. He could have shat on screen and would have gotten kudos as long as he grabbed a mike. We’ve seen you play a rapper but face it: you’ve got life experiece. And I swear to god, if he once even look at a mike in Have Gun I’ll say he’s a one hit wonder. And I’ll mean it too.

Emiem’s an artist that has decided to take his turn at being an actor and that’s cool. But he better brig it to the table or he’ll be running all the way to 8 Mile and Novara with his tail between his legs.

  4. Well, as an Eminem fan, I’m very interested to see how he does in this. Sure, he basically played himself in 8 Mile, but even then…he was still acting.

And the “mindless Eminem fan drones” comment was unnecessary. Perhaps I should call you a “mindless U2 fan drone”? But I won’t do that, because it is beyond immature.

  5. John Campea, U idiot!!!
When making a movie, one has to consider a million diffrent aspects other then just talent. They casted Eminem because they want to make money and if they surround him with enough good actors, they’ll do exactly that. Even though Eminem played a role which was sufficently based on him, he did an outstanding job. His performance was better then most of :”a real actor who has spent their whole lives studying the art and perfecting their craft as actors”. He is an entertainer with a gift of exciting his fans and he gives them their money’s worth, whether its a CD, a concert or a movie. So get ur hand of ur dick a write on a topic u know about.

  6. ≈ü≈ü lan hepiniz yabancƒ±sƒ±nƒ±z tamam ama EMƒ∞NEM 1 NUMARA! t√ºrkiye’ye beklerim.. geberin laan:D:D zuahahaha hepiniz salaksƒ±nƒ±zz:D:D

    BELY LUVS EMINEM
DON’T WORRY BABY EVERYTHING YOU DO IS FINE!!! I LOVE YOU EMINEM

  8. oh yeh lol. sumthing else if he cnt act then y did his movie make millions of dollars and y wud people SPEND millions of $$ to make the movie..Hes gud get over it conversation over…move on to sumthing more important like how slutty Paris is and the role model shes giing to lil kiddies! HA suck on that.
i h8 paris hilton, now she is sum1 that cnt act
    ur a dick head John

  9. oh and also,
im not saying this jst bcoz i love him its also bcoz he isnt a bad actor 8 mile waz awesome!
omg its so annoying wen people say all this stuff! if u dnt like him dnt b involved with his stuff and keep ur comments 2 urself. He can god damn act and rap. Hes a gud man

  10. Oh get ova it. Eminem is a celebrity ad signed up to be a rapper but along the way he is in a couple of movies so wat. Lindsey Lohan,Jessie Mccartney, hilary duff and so many other people sing and act…He doesnt have to just be a rapper, and anyway he’s a gud actor and so hot so its gud to watch him in movies ;)
There r soooo many reasons but i cnt b bothered. just mind ur own business, u dnt have to watch th movie if u dnt want.
    xx Shady bayby xx

  11. The ignorance on this board.

There are a ton of rappers who are terrible actors (LL Cool J, 50 for example) but there are some who have shown some promise (Em, Mos Def, Andre Benjamin).

There was actually some moderate Oscar buzz surrounding Em’s role in 8 Mile. Sure you can say it’s easy because he played himself, but how many rappers have generated any Oscar buzz at all?

Eminem is in this movie because it will virtually guarantee box office success. But Drewbacca is right…he’s the wrong guy for you to attack.

  12. em iz very talented as a liyrisist and a actor i watched 8 mile and didnt like it that much but he did act well my dislike was nothing to do with em’s ability to act but the way this movie was direted and written it wasnt great but i love his music and look forward to his new mixtape produced by him hittin the net on em’s birthday very soon and u fuckin haters need to dowload it and listen to that music an fuckin loosen up u jelous fucks

  13. this movie is great. Eminem can really act not like other rappers that can’t act. I odn’t care what all of u guys say because u guys are on crack!!!!!!!!! 8 mile is a crazy movie. Who ever said it sucks i want to see you guys to better.(even though I knoe u can’t)You guys are peices of crap because eminem is great

  14. eminem je najjači lik na svitu. EMINEM 4EVER
EMINEM IS THE BEST SINGER, AND THE BEST ACTOR IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
I LOVE HIM BECAUSE HE IS HONEST AND SO SEXY….
AND HE IS GIFTED. 8MILE IS GREAT, AND TJIS NEW ONE WILL BE GREEEEAT.
HE IS SO COOL, AND HE HAS TALENT.
SO SHUT THE FUCK UP, AND LEAVE THAT MAN ALONE

  15. I totally don’t agree with you John. My God i also think Eminem is a fine musical artist, but also a great actor. You don’t have to study acting your whole life to be one. You can have the talent! Eminem has talent and I believe this movie will be good. Save your comments til after the movie comes out. I don’t see any reasons for your comments, are you jealous?? Listen to ”Big Weenie” Eminem, listen to the words – that’s what you are. And ”mindless Eminem fan drones,” man that was stupid. If you love someone’s music and the artist ofcourse you would love to hear they are appearing in a movie, that’s natural. And why are you talking crap like that for Eminem, he is totally innocent in this whole situation, who wouldn’t wanna be in a movie?? Fuck it. I still think that you are just jealous cause you couldn’t make it like Eminem. Save your comments I don’t need them.

  16. “mindless Eminem fan drones”……………what??? That was harsh!!! How can you judge a movie before it is even made?? DUH!! It seems like you are rooting for this movie to fail just because it has eminem in it. You don’t even know what the story will be, you don’t know what other actors are going to be in it. So how can you even form an opinion yet? Are you just jealous because you can’t make it in hollywood? Every actor has to start somewhere. Would you say that a teacher can never become a doctor? You can do anything you want to do if you work hard. I think you should save your opinion until the movie comes out.

  17. Eminem is to acting as Uwe Boll is to directing….. Hey look at me! I’m a mad white boy rappin’ cowboy. Ouuuuch! I think my brain just hemorrhaged. People are actually defending this? I’d rather be punched in the nuts than watch Eminem act. How about a new Uwe Boll film starring Eminem?

  18. Look Spidey Fan (aka “non Actor”)

We’ve been over your failed attempt at analogy calling Routh a “failed Soap Actor” a dozen times now… so I’ll leave that alone.

HAHAHA!!! Are you SERIOUS?!?! Are you seriously saying that anyone who reads lines is a real actor?!?!

Ok… I’ll go with your logic. Therefore:

Anyone who holds a gun is a US Marine
Anyone who holds a wrench is a professional plumber
Anyone with with a stethacope (sp?) is a fully skilled Doctor
Anyone with a baseball glove is qualified to be a New York Yankee
Anyone who uses a computer is an Algorithm programer

Dude seriously, if you can’t tell the difference between a trained experienced actor and some musician playing himself… then I don’t know what to tell ya.

Some singers (like Will Smith for example), dabble a bit in acting, then take a break for a few years from their music to study acting and get trained and then move on to bigger things. Heck, Smith went on to get nominated for an Oscar. Cher and Mark Wahlberg are other good examples of singers who make the jump by sacrifice, training and dedication. I applaud those people.

And I don’t blame Eminem for just using his fame as a musician to get lead acting roles. I’d take it if it were offered to me! But I do blame the studios. Because it’s stupid (IMO)

So no Spidey Fan, a real actor is not just anyone who acts. That’s like saying an Olympic sprinter is just anyone who runs. There is a world of difference.

Seriously though, I think you’re way out in left feild on this, but it’s a good discussion.

    Debate is good.

    Cheers!

    ~John

  19. Non Actor, John?

You know what? Lately you’ve been attacking the little guy and praising the big guy. Very intersting. Why is that?

Eminem isn’t an actor? Ever hear of a film called 8-MILE? Was he NOT the actor in that film?! SO what makes an actor an actor? Someone who goes to school and studies for it? Or someone who reads lines, looks pretty, and sounds oh-so-charming?

An actor is someone who acts. Eminem acts. Whether or not you choose to accept that fact is your fault.

It’s interesting how you consider Eminem to be a non-actor and yet a failed Soap Opera star like Brandon Routh to be legitimate?

And why would you hate Eminem so much without even talking about the movie itself? Why are you so hateful of Eminem, and yet so praising of anything released by Bryan Singer?

    Things that make you go…hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm….

  20. Besides, this might be a good place to put up some thoughts about acting in general.

The whole idea of ‘studying acting’ makes no sense to me. Basicly acting is lying, and you are either able to lie convincingly or not. The whole thing that Robert de Niro did, where you ‘transform’ into a character. IE. wear the clothes at home, get your teeth done – so that you will be able to identify with him is not acting.
If you try and integrate the character into yourself I’d say acting seizes and you’re just being yourself.
Of course, it can make for good performances, but it is just technical then, and the art of acting disappears. I suppose that part of it could be taught.

But there is a reason why some people make it as actors, and millions don’t. Looks is a part of it of course, mostly for women though. Acting is natural ability, and it does not matter if you study it for years, if you haven’t got it, you haven’t got it.

  21. Man, that analogy was silly John.

Watching a bad movie won’t hurt me physically. (As much as Doug seems to think so, I doubt it will ever be the case.)

I get your point, I got it before as well. I’m not trying to nullify your point, just trying to argue it.

  22. damn you all miss the point. The movie is going to do big numbers and in my opinion should be entertaining. The will get the right people involved like 8 Mile.

  23. Hey Henrik,

I see your point… but let me put it this way.

You need a cavity filled. You want a guy to walk into the room who has trained for years as a dentist to do the work for you… or a guy who never studied destistry but has 3 gold albums… so the dental association is letting him take a shot at it?

A silly analogy I know… but you see what I’m saying.

  24. Well if the dude gets the part, dont get all snobby. Maybe there’s talent there. Your rant reminds me of the thousands of bitches moaning about how “their band could’ve made it if it hadn’t been for all those untalented people on american idol!!!”

Thats bullshit. Dont get pissed at people making it, and wait untill you see the movie to judge the acting skills of Eminem.

For the record I did see 8 Mile and thought it was a pile of shit, but this snobby behavior pisses me off.
If there’s talent there, then don’t bitch about how it got discovered.

  25. There are I think some exceptions to what John is saying. Cher and Will Smith of course stands out, as does David Bowie and Sting (okay, to be fair, the latter two’s best gigs were eccentric fantasy/sci fi characters); the only two worth merit right now is Mos Def and LL Cool J. Ice -T is also an exception. (New Jack City; Law & Order SVU). Kenny Rogers I loved as a kid when he was The Gambler ,although to be fair, it was written for him and based off one of his hit songs.

However, I don’t consider it “acting” when a musician is playing a musician or aspiring artist. Or themselves-even if the film is good overall (House Party). Some like 50 Cent, can’t even act good when playing such a part. Some people might make an arguement for Ice Cube. That’s fine if he ever played anyone different than himself and his gangsta rap image. In truth, that is the problem with most “musicians” to get into movies. Their fanbase will think it’s cool and might go, but when they see them act the same persona that they have as musicians, it’s a turn off.

That said, there is one area of film of which I have zero problem if they want to be in: such as Queen Latifiah in ‘Chicago’. That’s right. Put a musician/singer in a musical. That is where they will excel…except Madonna, of course.

  26. First of, let me say, I 100% agree with you John. And I don’t think Eminem is that good, I mean, he played himself in 8 Mile. How hard is that?

But, I will say that critics raved about “8 Mile;” God knows why. So maybe he actually can act. If the critics loved it, th movie did well, and most people see to agree, then maybe Eminem is the wrong guy to attck.

My own personal opinion is the 8 Mile was total crap and overrated as hell. It was like the 80’s movie Breakin’ but with a rap fight at the end instead of a Breakdance fight. Brittany Murphy is hardly in it and has virtually no dialogue. Dumb movie and I hated it. The only people that like it are Eminem music lovers.

  27. This is disturbing news! Not because I hate Eminem or the fact that he’s a musician, but because I don’t see how he would fit as Paladin, the main character in HGWT.
What reasons did Paramount have, to think that he would be a good match for this character? If you’re at all familiar with the series, you know that the character is older, very worldly and world-worn, mainly due to his experiences as a younger man. Although Paladin’s history is somewhat of a mystery(in fact, you never learn his first name), there’s an episode that explains his origin and how he came about to become a guardian of those who are victimized. The actor chosen would have to show these qualities to make us believe in what his mission.
As you said John, there are thousands of unknown actors who would probably fit the part more than Eminem. Hell, if Paramount insists on a musician, I’m sure there are others that would have been a better selection.

  28. Heyoooooooooooooo!

Attack the musicians who pull off bad performances all you want(50 Cent), but Eminem actually did a decent job in 8 Mile and I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt until he drops a stinker.

    IMHO

  29. I hate this! I swear, never put a rock/rap star in a movie unless they’re playing themselves. It really doesn’t work that way either, but it spares us having to put up with their crappy acting. Sure Emenem showed his acting chops in 8 Mile, but he should stick to his day job. Personally, if my dream ever comes true, only actors will be cast as leads or supporting.

  30. There are musicians who can act and actors who can do pretty damn fine music, and as long as they’re good at both I think they should do it. Frank Sinatra is a good example, I wouldn’t wanna be without neither his music nor movies.

Not that I’m comparing Eminem to Sinatra, but I loved 8 Mile and am very curious to see if he can play anything else than himself.

  31. I am not a eminem fan but I like to see movies with actors that are less well known. Seeing the same big time actors in movie after movie gets a little boring. It is time to shuffle in some new names into the movies.
