@chris: Those are excellent shows. I watch all of them. I also recommend watching Naruto, Bleach, Hellsing, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop. :)

I actually watched Full Metal, Samurai Champloo, and Stand Alone Complex on cartoon network. All excellent shows and i reccommend them to all…I’m renting Karas tommorrow to see how it is. this list looks good to me

While I thought Advent Children’s animation was awesome…the basic story and plot sucked. But I can somewhat agree with the rest of the list.

To Borloff and anyone else who wants to see something truly mind-blowing…check out Casshern. Now that is a sweet fucking movie…it is live action anime and it blew my socks off.

You know, that was I was just saying on the subject of remakes. Advent Children was okay, but there were flaws. I would like to see an adaption of Final Fantasy VII (CGI or animation; no interest in live-action). The story was pretty good. However, if the adaption was made in North America, the script MUST be good!

Judging from the sales all over the world, the Final Fantasy franchise looks to be getting closer to being a great movie franchise. Now if only someone can make it happen…

Spirited Away is awesome!

I really disliked FF7: Advent Children. It was a piece of boring garbage. Lots of ponderous rambling that means nothing, a huge chunk of exposition every five minutes and then a bunch of dull action scenes. And Cloud is a whiney little bitch who does nothing. I liked the other Final Fantasy movie, it was groovy, if a little daft, but this sucks. As a fan of the game, this still sucks. There’s just no point to any of it. And, of course, it’s sickeningly sentimental (this coming from a fan of E.T.).

The movie looks shiny but I actually prefer the other FF movie’s visuals. Everybody in Advent Children has creepy looking anime eyes that don’t fit with the hyper-realistic everything else. And all the men look like women, which always bothers me.

If this was live-action, it would be Battlefield Earth, such nonsense that it is.

borloff: I would recommend Hellsing and Planetes. Maybe add Escaflowne: The Movie. Noir is pretty good too.

Alright, I’ve printed the list for viewing. The only things I’ve seen (and have added to my collection) are Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Go figure.

Hey, maybe you hipsters can help me out. I do love anime, but don’t keep up with it as much as others. I own a little game shop in my town and i am gonna start renting out anime. I would appreciate some input from ya’ll about what i should consider stocking…. so far i have; Cowboy Bebop (series and movie), Escaflowne (Series), Trigun (series), Stand Alone Complex (seasons 1 and 2), Evangalion (Series and 2 movies), Samuarai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell (1 and 2), .hack//sign, Lain, Appleseed (2005 movie, which i thought was really sweet), Ninja scroll (movie and series), Witch Hunter Robin, Akira, Steamboy, Tokyopop Phantom.
I intend to pick up Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Kuroni Kenshin, and Bubblegum Crisis (the new one)…… Any other suggestions?

Advent Children was pretty cool, if not slightly silly. The animation was absolutely gorgeous, but a lot of it’s script was god awful. Even as a HUGE fan of final fantasy 7 I had to cringe during a few parts. An american studio REALLY needs to hire square’s animation division for a film.

I have only seen Samurai Champloo and Stand Alone Complex from this list. They are both excellent, so it’s nice to see them in such high positions. Both are in my TOP5 anime series list alongside Cowboy Bebop, NGE and Planetes.

Don’t know much about Final Fantasy universe… is FF7 better than Spirits Within? That was pretty bad storywise. Lots of eye candy but noth much else. Just like Appleseed the movie.

The best anime movie I’ve seen is probably Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heavens Door. Akira is pretty good also… but the manga is better.

Hopefully the new Stand Alone Complex movie Solid State Society will be good. I’ve high hopes for that one.
