Tribeca – When It Sucks Doing The Movie Blog

Hey there folks, John here.

You know, for almost the last 3 years, The Movie Blog has been one of the most pure fun things I’ve done. Think about it… everyday I get to talk movies, get feedback from people, interact with other film fans I would have never been able to meet in the “real world” and even get invited to the odd cool thing from time to time (movie premieres, special events, ect.)

However, I learned pretty early on that sometimes the blessing can be a curse.

About a year or so ago I started getting invited by media companies to go to press junkets and have to opportunity to interview the stars (I’ve been invited to interview folks like Bruce Campbell, Naomi Watts, Guillermo del Toro, Jeffery Rush, Cameron Diaz… ect ect ect). Sounds great doesn’t it??? Yeah, we the problem is that most of these interview opportunities at the mass Junkets are in LOS ANGELES!!!!!! Yeah… I’m going to hop on a plane (Remember, I live in Canada near Toronto) and spend $500 on a flight to LA for a day just to get 2.5 minutes with some star. I’d love to… but there’s no way I can justify that to my bank account.

Or, take this week for instance. I was officially invited to and granted a full press pass for the Tribeca Film Festival going on in New York City. I SOOOO WANT TO BE THERE!!!! But the festival is long, and the cheapest hotel rates I could find that was anywhere near the prime festival locations was like $350/night US. Not to mention travel, and well suddenly my excitement of going to Tribeca turned into bitter sadness when I realized I just couldn’t swing it. It’s like being 12, and having a Toys R’ Us manager hold out a gold plated brand new Optimus Prime toy… only then to snatch it away from you. SUCKS!!!!

Damn… I need a sugar daddy. Anyone want to make me their bitch?
