Pierce Brosnan Says Bond Producers Regret Decision Already

Pierce Brosnan is saying that James Bond Producers probably already regret their decision to let him go in favour of a younger Daniel Craig. I don’t know who Brosnan has been talking to… but when I saw footage of the press conference they seemed pretty damn excited to me.

I’ve gone on record before that I think Brosnan is a gifted actor and was a great James Bond. I wouldn’t have minded seeing him continue in the role. However, he’s always had a knack for saying stupid thing at stupid times… like right now. This is from the good folks over at M&C:

The Irish actor, 52, was heartbroken at being dropped from the role of the suave superspy, and he is certain movie bosses have made a huge mistake. He says, “Whether they made the right choice, who knows? They’re probably scared s**tless, thinking, ‘What have we done?'”

Ummm… no Pierce… they aren’t. The world doesn’t not revolve around Pierce Brosnan, and Pierce Brosnan needs to learn that. Personally I think Criag will make a great Bond. Was he my first choice? No… not really… but it’s a good choice nonetheless… even if Brosnan doesn’t think so.

  1. I think Brosnan was misquoted.

    Why?

Because if he wasn’t, he only has himself to blame. Sure he might have once asked for ‘a little more’ on the salary, but, and correct me if I’m wrong on this, but…didn’t he want to stop as Bond, and then after the search for the next 007 was well underway and nearing the end..Brosnan had second thoughts?

Brosnan has had some degree of success outside of Bond, there is no doubt that he wil continue to do so.

Also, I stand by my previous thoughts and Dan Craig will die his hair darker.

But why isn’t Movie Blog going on about that “other” Bond news?

You know… no Q, no Moneypenny??

  2. I like Craig. He looks like he can bring more grit to the role. I like Brosnan as Bond, but I actually slept through the last two bond movies — in the theaters, with giant speakers blasting every explosion! I snore through most of “The World is Not Enough” and could barely keep my eyes open during “Die Another Day”. Personally I think Brosnan is way too suave in the role. I don’t know, I sort of think it might be a good idea to have a James Bond that you can actually BELIEVE he could be in danger. With Brosnan, I never for one second believed Bond couldn’t get out of a given situation. I know, I know, that’s Bond’s signature — but you know, in this day and age, I’d like a hero who wasn’t so invincible. Or act like he’s invincible.

  3. Life after James Bond?

Connery was young enough to carve a new career though it took him years to fully emerge from Bonds shadow.

Roger Moore’s movie career efectively ended when he retired as Bond.

  4. I was always a big Roger Moore fan, so when they replaced him with Timothy Dalton (regardless of the reason), I was dissapointed. I gave Dalton a chance though and didn’t like the films or his role as Bond. Brosnan was probably the best Bond. He fit the part perfectly. As for Craig, I think he has the potential – if you go off his fairly decent performance in Layer Cake, but I have to admit, I’d agree with Brosnan, they have to be slightly worried they made the right choice.

  5. I never took to Brosnan as 007, it wasn’t just the films, distinctly average as they were, it was his whole persona, the lack of depth, his inability to put any knowing inflection into the trademark ripostes. Personally I’m glad he’s gone, if Connery or Lazenby had invited me outside after a bar room dispute, I’d have S*****d myself, if Brosnan had, I’d have held the door for him. And that was it I suppose, he was more like a pretty-boy fashion model than the finest operative in Her Majesty’s Secret Service. He looked about as threatening as Tom f*****g Cruise. Hooray for Daniel Craig, I’m sure he’ll be great.

  6. Oh my goodness, I can only hope that this quote was taken out of context because it’s truly sad. Why would he say that? Does he have the delusion that he’s the best man on earth to play James Bond? If that’s the case then he needs a reality check. In my case, I’m very much looking forward to the next Bond film because he’s not coming back.
