The Audio Edition – Friday September 16th 2005

Hey there Folks, we’re back again with your daily dose of Audio goodness.

Today Doug and I talk about the upcoming video game movie “DOOM”. Is it doomed to fail? What we think of the trailers and media we’ve seen so far and how we think it’ll do overall. We also talk about video game movies in general. Why do they almost always (if not always) fail?). Does HALO the movie have any chance of being any good at all? What video games do we think stand a chance of being ok movie adaptations?

We also take some time out to talk about Brad’s Johnny Knoxville to Brad Pitt comparison (I told Brad I was never going to let this go). All this and a few things more.

You can download the audio goodness here.

  1. I was thinking about what games would make for killer movies. Does anyone remember the video game “Alice”? It was like a creepy version of Alice in Wonderland. I think that would be sweet. And I also think that Half-Life would be cool. It has that Equilibrium type feel to it, but I think it could definitely differentiate itself from the crowd.

  2. “What’s your impression of the Doom trailer?”

Oh Doug…I thought you’d burst into an Airplane style joke…

Like Doug says though, I’m more curious to see how they mix the styles together, first person and movie.

    Good chat guys.

  3. There is an exception: Resident Evil. NO!!! Not the Paul Anderson flick. It took awhile for me to take the movie as it own, popcorn movie, though it should no longer be called “Resident Evil”.

What could’ve made an excellent RE flick is the novel adaptation by S.D. Perry (“Resident Evil #1: The Umbrella Conspiracy”). It’s a great book that captures the mood of the game and filled in the gaps made during game playing. That paperback should’ve been used for the film. That would’ve made a decent movie too bad that didn’t happen.

  4. Great audio edition. This one is propably even better than last one and that was great too. Again, you had (well, not exactly) one topic and you gotta say all your thoughs. Funny as always and great points about videogamemovies and how they pretty much always suck.

And your working speed is killing you, watch for burnout :)

  5. great show as always. I would say that yesterday’s show was one of the best reviews of a movie I’ve heard you do. I give your review an 8 out of 10. maybe it was because you spent the time to really get into it.

one point of trivia you left out, perhaps intentionally, Ginger Lynn also stared in the Wing Commander 3 game as the love interest and subsequently went back to porn.
