The Transformers land Alias Writers

As a child of the 80’s, I’ve been drooling over the concept of a live action Transformers movie. Then, I was embraced by total euphoria when I heard that Steven Spielberg was taking a very active role in the project as it’s producer. And now… well… my joy is nearly complete.

In my opinion Alias has probably been the best show on TV for the last 4 years (only recently supplanted as my favorite show by the new Battlestar Galactica series). Always fast paced, always interesting, always great plot twists. And now it looks like the writers for the show are turning their attention to putting words in Optimus Prime’s mouth! The good folks over at Moivehole give us this:

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, best known for their contributions to the unremittingly wild, always-fresh, storylines on TV’s “Alias”, have been tapped to write the Steven Spielberg executive produced “Transformers” pic, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Kurtzman and Orci have a two-year, first-look deal to write, direct and produce films for DreamWorks, where they rewrote “The Island.”

This is terrific news. When the whispers of a Transformers movie started going around, I was afraid it was going to go the way of Dungeons and Dragons. A bunch of fan boys with no credibility trying to make a movie. It’s great to see my fears were all for nothing. I can’t wait!!!! All hail Prime! (I’m such a geek).

  1. Yes, very exciting – can’t wait till a director is announced and it’s officially put ‘in production’. I’m guessing it’s going to be a while till this hits theaters – anyone heard a target release?

I thought it was Christmas 2006 but I don’t know.

  2. This sounds better by the announcement. I always get a little squeamish when they want to do live action movies based off cartoons, but this sounds like it could have serious promise. I’m looking forward to keeping an eye on the developements.
