The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Finishes Shooting

Narnia_8.jpgWell, I didn’t realize they were this far into the project, but apparently filming of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe has wrapped in New Zealand. I’m very excited about this project since it’s probably in the top ten of my favorite books of all time. The Good folks over at NarniaWeb offer us this:

We have received word from our sources that the four children are on their way home tomorrow, December 19th, and that director Andrew Adamson was very happy with their performance. The filmmakers will take a break for Christmas and after the first of the year will begin 11 months of post-production.

Considering the Christian faith overtones of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I’m curious to see what (if any) elements of the story they remove to make the film have a broader appeal.

  1. I agree that the Christian overtones ought to be kept. C.S. Lewis wrote it that way, and Christianity is integrated in so many aspects of the story that it would be next to impossible to extricate them. Besides, doing so would lose the flavour of the books, in much the way fat-free food doesn’t tend to taste as good as the original thing. Though I am not a Christian, I still thoroughly enjoyed Lewis’ works, so why shouldn’t other non-christians? They can either acknowledge the Christian morality and enjoy the story, or else they can fail to enjoy what could be a really good movie.

  2. Perhaps after the advent and success of “The Passion”, they are gutsy enough not to remove the Christian overtones. Otherwise, dear Mr. Lewis would be quite disappointed and turn over in his grave if the one aspect for which he dedicated so many years of his life was removed just for the sake of the dollar.
