Variety has just released their projected box office figures for this weekend and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 has come out on top with an estimated gross of $21.8 million. In just one weekend this film has surpassed the total domestic take of Moore’s Bowling For Columbine, which was the highest grossing documentary of all time until now. Whatever you may think of the film – my thoughts are down below – there are an awful lot of you going to see it …

I am not an American but a critical watcher of your political system.Yesterday I stumbled on a DVD of Farenheight 9/11 at my video club. I watched it late into the night with my wife and personally came away disgusted on the whole issue of your political culture.The Bushes have programmed and dragged you guys into a quagmire for personal gains and those of the far right(conservative class)who see not only America but the whole world as their foot stool.You are not alone though. All politicians have the same pathogens flowing in them even in my country, Nigeria. They are
manipulative,conniving,uncontrollably greedy, wicked and largely evil when it comes to protecting their turf. It’s sad that very young and brave men and women who would have been useful in real wars are being sacrificed in the sands of greed in Iraq.Why should people be so evil.America’s involvement in the 2nd World War was justified when it came in as a reserve force. Today,you have over stretched your forces on irrelevant and selfish wars. Afghanistan was okay but came late;whatever happened to your fabled secret services? I am going to vote for Bush once again. This movie was made with the goal in mind to make our President and government look worse than what it is. This is a fictional movie! Do you suppose that if this was a movie that praised the present Presidential administration, and spoke well of President Bush, that it would have been as ‘must see’ as it was. I don’t think so. America’s President is an honorable, God-fearing, Moral, respectable man, and as leader of this country he has done a great job.

And on a side note, for political information and so much more, I recommend Hannity & Colmes on FoxNews. It’s a Conservative and a Liberal hosting their own show, debating the issues, and presenting both sides of the story (unlike most other media outlets, which have strong political party influences, one way or another).

1) I don’t think the issue is whether or not the Bush’s got more money from the Saudis above other presidents. (Which doesn’t make it any more “right”) — The fact is, that this particular president has not touched the Saudi question at all in regards to 9-11, now why is that? Can we speculate it’s because of the tiny little issue of billions of dollars of investments? Just maybe. – Their invenstments may not be anymore than old presidents, but the fact is, 9-11 occured during Bush’s term and he’s been neglecting the morale of finding those responsible (Osama) and attacking those not responsible. (Saddam).
Whether the Saudis are truly involved is unclear. However 15 of the 19 terrists WERE saudis and the saudis have never been INVESTIGATED as a remote possibility. Which, when dealing with the worst terroist act ever on American soil, is neglect to the point of criminal.
2) The pipeline: Actually the talk about it precedes 1999 – Clinton’s dicussions with the Taleban got royally screwed when he started bombing the tar out of Kosovo, so as a result of the lost oil revenue potential, the only way to resolve the lost billions from the lack of pipleine plans was to replace the president with one that would support resuming the pipeline. The companies withdrew their Clinton support and backed the next president so their revenue could once again flow. This company? Take a guess, yup: Enron.
3) Actually, as much as you wont like it, Fahrenheit 9-11 *is* listed as a documentary.
4) The numbers, even in high republican and conservative belts, are way, way Up. So it isn’t preaching to simply the choir — And Even if It WAS: The Choir is the group that isn’t voting. Voting is the key. Get enough of “the choir” out to vote is the goal. Hopefully they’ll remove the president that has started a war based on a lie.

Seeing this movie means that you won’t be able to use ignorance as an excuse for apathy. If you want to learn more about how the power establishment functions, watch the 1993 documentary entitled “Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media” or a 2002 talk by the MIT professor at Harvard University entitled “Distorted Morality: America’s War on Terror?”. 2) The Richard Clarke thing? Admitting that he authorized the bin Laden departures? Well, my genius friend, may I remind you that Richard Clarke WAS WORKING FOR PRESIDENT BUSH AT THE TIME! – His job? Head of Counter Terrorism.
The quote from the movie? Here it is:
“We had some airlines authorized at the highest levels of our government to pick up Osama bin Laden’s family members and transport them out of this country.” “highest levels of our government” would include the Top Guy of Counter Terrorism, my friend. I don’t see a lie there anywhere.
I don’t care who *authorized* it, the fact that the family members of the most wanted man in the world were allowed to leave the country without so much as asking them if they know anything was ridiculous to the point of criminal.
3) Actually, the amount of money Mr. Moore had before the mild success of Roger & Me, which I’m sure you’ve never seen, was roughly 17,000 a year. That’s peanuts. Try being a filmmmaker that no one has ever heard of and survive at the same time. If you think that Mr. Moore has spent his life rich, you’re simply wrong.
4) If Mr Moore’s Film is propaganda, what do you call Bush’s lies about calling Iraq an Al-Qaeda faction country and stockpiling Weapons of Mass Destruction when NONE OF IT WAS TRUE! What would you call that? — Everything Bush said turned out to be false so he Suddenly decides that he is **SO** interested in the “liberation” of Iraq, even though he never uttered those words once before he went in.
5) If Bush’s non-reaction to the 9-11 in the classroom was for the “Children’s benefit” – Then why did his Secret Service think it was necessary to inform him right away? Why not take their time and tell him later?
Besides “benefit of the children” is a lame reason. No one would’ve expected Bush to stand up and freak out by SAYING “HOLY SH*T KIDS, RUN! BOXCUTTERS!!!” — What he should’ve done is calmly stood up and said: “Excuse me for a second kids, my friends need to talk to me for a minute.” And left the room. That’s not panic.
— What Other President or World Leader Would Sit There and Do Nothing When Informed His Country Was Under Attack? Answer: NOT many bucko.
Doing nothing was the best option? Gimme a break.

1. You’ve never read Bradbury’s book, have you? There’s no connection at all between Fahrenheit 451 (so named because it’s the flash-point of paper) and Fahrenheit 9/11 beyond the fact that they both include the word ‘fahrenheit’ in their names. That being the case Moore doesn’t need Bradbury’s permission and all the noise Bradbury’s making is just noise with no substance behind it. If Bradbury’s foolish enough to try and file a lawsuit it’ll get tossed out the second it gets before a judge.
2. Got a source for that supposed quote from Clarke? I’d like to see it if it’s true.

Saw the infamous Michael Moore film last night… Weather you “like” or hate George W… you should see this film! Much of it was over-dramatic….and it was edited perfectly to make Bush look like the dumb-ass he is (“Ahh, they have this saying in Nebraska, well they have it in Texas too… Once a fool… ahhh… Fool me once…ahhh..You can’t fool a fool”) What exactly was he trying to say?
Anyway, I’m no political anylist and I’m part of the unfortunate “apethetic voter movement” but I did find this film intrieging. Mr. Moore gave a detailed account of Bush’s connections with “Corporate America” , Saudi Oil families and other political entities that gained money and power not only from his reign but the events of 9/11. The begining of the film focused on the 2000 election, the unfortunate roll of the media in this event, and the objection of many our elected officals against the result of the election. The latter half on the events leading up to and surrent events of the US’s role in Iraq. Someone remind me why we are there. “Things that make you go..hmmmm”.
Overall, I give this film TWO THUMS UP!! Ionically, we almost didn’t get to see this film. First, the major production comanies refused to produce it and subsequently will not be running the film in their theaters. Our local bargain theater is the only theater that is playing this film within 50 miles. This place is a hole in the wall. We saw it last night and by accident were at the theater 30minutes early. We were surprised to find a line of people waiting to by tickets and then the show SOLD OUT. Not surprisingly, the end of the film brought a standing ovation!!
So there you have it. DISCUSS and ENJOY!! (What I’d love to see next is for a conservative/Republican to make the antithesis film on this matter… and for the record, if one were made… I would go see it too.)
the important thing to remember is that some of it has to do with editing.. he he uses humor as well as fact to make his points. most people forget to realize some of it is not Exactly true. — i hate Bush and the war… and if the only way to fight the governments propaganda is with propaganda …. so be it.

The only difference between the democrats and the republicans is that republicans are better at looking good come election time and democrats are better at looking good in office.
Read Ralph Naders letter to Michael Moore(http://www.votenader.org/why_ralph/index.php?cid=54). I would choose Nader over Kerry. Gore didn’t lose the election to Nader, it was stolen. It was all so close because Gore was an untrustworthy and uninspiring choice for president. The Clinton Administation did almost as much damage to this country AND Iraq as Bush.
There is a very slim margin between the lesser of two evils in this country. How bad do things have to get before enough of us demand someone with integrety rather than voting out of fear?
I saw it on Friday, and it was great! I left work at 1PM to go buy tickets to the 7 or 945 show, both of which were sold out. I called my friend to see if she wante dto see the 4:15, which was all they had left. I got back in line and bought the last tow tickets. When I got there the line was around the building and there was a circus-like atmosphere (in a good way), everyone was excited and the enegy was palpable. It was as if we (those who understand that bush is bad for america) finally had a big loud booming voice. I am a veteran and the scenes of wonded veterans probably affected me the most. It made me want to do something for them, something beyond the protests, and fund raising bake sales and house parties for Kerry. I am going to fight bush even harder than I have been. When he was ‘elected’ I was on the aircraft carrier out to sea, and I cried. The tragedy of him shattered all of the hopes and dreams that had lingered since kindergarten. I realized that hard work and determination would not give you all you wanted in life. You had to be a rich, white guy with a powerful rich family (hey Kerry is the same, but atleast he has an IQ and some sense). At least I had 24 years of ignorant bliss.
Anyway this movie confirmed so much for me, plus it was good in its own right. I laughed and I cried and I left feeling like I had a sense of purpose. See it and let’s take back America from a loony who thinks his prayers (AKA asking God for guidance) ARE directives from God. Yikes!
Finally, to Naderites out there, wake up and smell 4 more years of this madness. Vote for Kerry, and quit being a gulliable republican tool. Have you not noticed that repubs are the majority of those signing the ballot petitions and cheering this megolmanic on. The veterans and those killed in the movie are a part of me, and they deserve better than 4 more years of a moron asleep at the helm.
went yesterday afternoon and was amazed to see the massive lines at the box office and the packed house. i was also surprised at the age range of the audience.
people laughed, cried…and gasped. and there was a hearty round of applause at the end.
and most of the theatre didn’t empty out during the credits.
even if you consider yourself politically aware, this film is an eye-opener.
moore has a way of presenting facts that makes a movie compelling.
everyone of voting age should see this.

went and saw it today…i went to the theater 40 minutes early, theater was completley packed with people. i was 40 minutes early and got a sucky seat. but it was a good movie, and a major eye opener for me. Even though i couldnt change sitting positions throughout the 2 hour movie and it was about 9000 degrees in there from all the breathing and sweat, it was very educational and everyone payed attention to everything (there were no seat kickers, cell phone whisperers, gigglers, etc)
