Justice League, Superman, and Batman 3 News!

Since John Campea is away for a few days, I’m making it my duty to report any super hero news for you super fanatics out there.  Variety has posted some juicy news and details about the status of the upcoming DC comic film adaptations. There is some good and unfortunately some bad news for you guys.

Comingsoon.net gives us these details:

Speaking of DC Comics pics, it is highly unlikely that Bryan Singer will return to shoot the next Superman movie. (The director is finishing up Tom Cruise’s Nazi film Valkyrie, and prepping The Mayor of Castro Street). The next Superman we will see on the big screen will not be Brandon Routh, but a younger Superman among a cast of youthful superheroes in The Justice League. That movie will likely not be shot, however, until after the WGA strike is resolved. Warners is so happy with Dark Knight that their fondest hope is that Nolan will return to do another Batman.

Well, I guess the bad news is that the next Superman will most likely not be directed by Bryan Singer. (Considering the travesty the upcoming ‘JLA’ movie will be, I don’t think fans will care if it’s delayed.)

Honestly, I wasn’t a big fan of ‘Superman Returns’ and would have rather seen Singer film ‘X-Men 3’ instead. I don’t think the upcoming Superman film will hurt the franchise anymore then the previous film had. (By the way, I hope they make Superman fight next time!)

If  ‘The Dark Knight’ is as great as the hype it’s been getting for the past couple of years, (Note:  I saw the five minute preview and thought it was excellent! Heath Ledger is going to KICK some SERIOUS ASS as “The Joker”! I don’t care what anybody says!) then it would be crazy for Christopher Nolan to pass up the opportunity to film the third installment.

So “superfans,” what are your thoughts to this news?  Are you mad about Bryan Singer not returning to ‘Superman?’ Are you pumped about Nolan doing another Batman?  Do you even care about the Justice League movie anymore? :P

  1. this guy that does the commentating should be fired or be killed. You have no skills and you suck….The Dark Knight by far is the best movie ever…

  2. Honestly, I don’t care for another superman flick the only hero that I would want to see over and over is Batman i grew up with him and I’m looking foward to seeing my favorite superhero battle my favorite supervillain the Joker. I am a screenplay writer of sorts even though none of my scripts have been published I wanted to write the Justice League story but I’m currently writing a DC superhero flick and I have a feelings that it might get crushed, but anyway I wuold do anything for the DC comic univirse

  3. Super-man returns was such garbage, B. Singer should not even be involved in it. Nor should the screenwriters who wrote it. man that film was horrible!!!

As for Justce League…as long as they cast Wonder Woman right, I’m happy. Ex. Not any of the Jessica’s (people get real) but maybe this Nardia Bjordin or something everyone keeps naming.

  4. Very glad to see Singer get the boot. Superman Returns was a complete wreak. The JL doesn’t sound great but it so far is leagues better than what ended up in SR.

  5. I don’t give a shit fuck of Singer his Superman exploits.
(Not surprised for not returning since a bad curse was babbled on him for departing X-Men)

The only hero that matters is BATMAN, and with Nolan in charge, there’s not an ounce of doubt that TDK will kick ass!!! So, yeah I’m pumped for a third & even a fourth!

  6. THANK GOD….. NO REALY THANK YOU BRYAN WRECKED THE FRANCHISE YES THE LAST MOVIE WAS THE QUEST 4 PEACE BUT “RETURNS” MIGHT AS WELL BEEN THE SEQUEL TO THE THAT MOVIE.I THINK BRYAN THOUGHT HE COULD REWRITE THE HOLE STORY OF SUPERMAN AND WHAT HE GOT WAS A $200 MILLION FLOP. YOU WANT TO SAVE SUPERMAN AND MAKE TONS OF CASH AT THE SAME TIME I HAVE 3 WORDS FOR YOU
“SMALLVILLE’S TOM WELLING” THE SHOW ALREADY HAS EVERYTHING LEADING UP TO THIS. I KNOW ITS A BIG CHANCE TO TAKE BUT YOU HAVE TO THINK- CHRISTOPHER REEVES HAS ALREADY PASS THE TOURCH TO TOM IN SMALLVILLE.

  7. I HOPE that they do a Batman 3 (Nolan) it seems they have a plan and hope it will all come to fruition with a trilogy.

    As for Justice League…

PUKE. no thanks. If Bale isn’t playing Batman, then what’s the point of doing it? WB IS STUPID for having a Batman movie out and a JLA movie without the same actor playing Batman….RETARDED.

Superman Returns wasn’t a bad movie, I just with they would have rebooted the franchise instead of trying to continue it without the same actors-drives me insane.

  8. At the very least I hope Routh gets to reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman. I thought he was great and I would love to see him really open up the charcater emotionally and moreso physically.

  9. To me it really doesn’t matter if Singer directs the next Superman movie or not…Superman Returns wasn’t good anyway….
But Nolan’s Batman Begins was awesome and The Dark Knight’s trailer looked very enticing too! His Batman series will certainly be regarded as classics like Tim Burton’s (of course minus Schumacher’s crap). Of course I would like to see him directing Batman 3 but I think that’s about it. Don’t repeat Sam Raimi’s mistake. You and I know too much of good thing is bad.
Btw, have any of you guys noticed that in I Am Legend, when Will Smith is hunting for antelopes at the beginning, there was a scene which showed Batman and Superman’s logo together in a poster hanging in a cinema building? Will that be a hint of Superman vs Batman?

  10. Slinger not back to boyscout franchise?
    Gooood very gooooood!pliss maket true!!
Rebut in 3 or 4 years.
    Nolan?
    In nolan we trust!
The justice titans 910210 of america movie?
just forgetabout!!no salvation even whith the great George Miller on it!
    And Peter T.no ofence but,
The superman i now for the comics and for the toons and even for the donner movie have a character and its not even close to the one they showed on SINGERMAN RETURNS.

  11. I was about to call it, but FN Jamie beat me to the punch.

Superman Returns had its share of flaws, but I don’t think for one minute Singer did a horrible job. As far as I know, he’s still involved in developing Man Of Steel, and yes, I hope for Supey fights be it against Bizarro, Metallo, Parasite, whoever they got. Heck, even Doomsday.

Batman…The Detective or Brave & Bold whatever they will call the third film is expected to happen. If memory serves, there’s strong hints Two-Face is set up for the third Bat-film under Nolan. (I also wouldn’t mind a Deadshot appearance or Jean M Valley) Doing another pic in between Bat-films is great…I loved The Prestige.

The Superfriends movie (I refuse to call it JLA) will have the plug pulled at the last moment.

  12. i have a great idea—how about WB knocks on Kevin Smith’s door, he probably has a copy or two of that nifty “Superman Lives” script he put together back in the mid-90’s. I read a copy of it and it was dead-on! It would be the masterpiece vehicle the francise reboot finally deserves. Any thoughts????

  13. The problem with the Variety blog/article is that (by all accounts) THE MAYOR OF CASTRO STREET is dead because of the rival Gus Van Sant film MILK. Also, the script for CASTRO STREET was not turned in on time before the WGA Strike started. And we’re still in the middle of the strike with no end in sight. So…that woman doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

Now…Latino Review is claiming that Brandon Routh is 100% out as Superman. They’ve said that whoever plays Supes in JLA (assuming that film still happens) will in fact replace Routh in the SUPERMAN sequel MAN OF STEEL. They’re claiming Variety said such in their posting…which is crap.

What Variety said is what we’ve all known for months now. Brandon Routh won’t be Superman in the JLA film. But then again, Christian Bale won’t be in it either. And (by all accounts) the solo BATMAN film series is moving on. Hell WB has said Routh and Bale will continue as their characters in the solo films.

Until I hear something official outta WB and/or Singer’s camp, I’m not buying a word of this…

  14. the way I figure it Singer GAVE Superman a character.

I loved it but agree it needed more action.

nothing’ll top TDK anyway, Marvel’s time is on the wane!

(as much as I love Spidey)

  15. Superman just wasn’t Singers thing, he really didn’t understand the character. I am not sad that he won’t be back, too bad X-Men had to suffer because he thought otherwise.

Batman Begins was an almost perfect movie, The Dark Knight looks really great so let’s hope he returns to do BATMAN 3

As for Justice League, who cares

  16. I say let Nolan do another film (The Prisoner is listed as next on IMDB), then come back to pull a “LOTR.” He can simultaneously film the next Superman, right into another Batman, with a 15 minute preview after the credits for Batman vs. Superman/or Worlds Finest that could come out 6 months later! …Oh man, I think I just rubbed one out!

  17. i relly hope Nolan will come back to do batman 3 if the dark knight turnes out to be a good and i think it will from the new trailer and the 7 minutes monaloge and it joker is being done right.

superman returnes i didnet relly like it jsut didnet work i think it woud have bin better if they jsut left superman alone u can’t relly do anthing new with superman.

  18. The JL Movie (not JLA because like GI Joe, America in the title is a dirty word) is a recipe for disaster, I do not belive it will get made. I am not looking forward to a Superman (lifts heavy objects) Returns sequel. I want to see Superman leave Earth and do battle with Darkseid on Apokolips.

  19. Well i think it’s sad that Singer isn’t coming back just because i think he had such a hard-on for the 1978 Superman film that he couldn’t see past it and made a movie that paid too much homage to it, in my opinion. But it’s clear that he’s realised that and i wanted to see him have one more crack at it.

But i’m not suprised that Singer isn’t coming back given the JLA mess. The problem now, if there is to be a new Superman movie, is what does the new director do about the bastard kid? Either the story continues with the kid, the next film is approached like the new Hulk movie where they don’t adknowledge certain plot points of the previous film, or they restart the whole franchise and we’re back to square one….

…and the high-ups at WB will probably be constantly arguing amongst themselves about which is the best way to go (remind you of a few years ago) and we’ll end up waiting another 20 years for another Superman film. What a mess!

  20. It would be crazy of Nolan not to do a third BATMAN-movie.

    As for Singer and Superman:
I really liked SUPERMAN RETURNS. It’s a film that gets better with additional viewings I think, I wasn’t very fond of it either at first, but there are a lot of things to admire about the film.
First and foremost I think you gotta give Singer a lot of of credit for trying to make things a little different. He made a Superhero movie that isn’t based on over-the-top action sequences, but rather concentrates on the state of mind of it’s protagonist.
And maybe the movie didn’t have a lot of action, but I think the sequence were Supes saves the plane is the greatest action scene in the history of superhero-films.
It’s majestic and you simply are in awe. At least I was.
The critic points against it are more than valid and the movie has some MAJOR flaws (a miscast Lois Lane, a ridiculous plot conceived by Lex Luthor). I get why a lot of people didn’t like it. It just wasn’t what they expected at all.
But when Kar-El sits at the bed of his son and says the lines that are the only thing left from his father, fuck, I had tears in my eyes:
“You will see my live through your eyes, as your life will be seen through mine. The son becomes the father and the father becomes the son.”
It’s an amazing scene and shows what Singer wanted to explore in the character of Superman. A character who is alone and who feels isolated from a world he’s trying to protect.
Many people hated the concept of Superman’s son, but I want to know badly what happens to this storyline in the sequel. I hope Singer stays and I hope he gets to continue what he did in the first movie, while also having learnt from previous mistakes.
Wow, now that turned out kinda long.

  21. i called it all along. people said i was wrong but i have been saying ever since the abomination that was superman (boringly) returns was released that that was the end of the so called “singer” franchise.

i hope routh got paid well..mind you he can co star with dean cain in straight to video action films

  22. Breathing a sigh of relief her on the ‘Singer’ news. I also thought they should have left the previous francise alone and went with a retool aka/”batman Begins” and now TDK. Still mulling over Routh or No Routh….though I did like some aspects of his characterization in Superman Returns.
On JLA, I as well will be holding my breath and praying that WB rethinks the idiot thinking they seem to be following on the project. Bring on TDK, Iron Man, The (New) Hulk and of course, “Mr. Jones”!!!!

  23. I’m not sad that Singer isn’t coming back. I did like “Superman Returns” but it had a lot of flaws. I hope they reboot it. Keep Brandon Routh though. Since Warner Bros had such a hard time finding a Superman in the first place, it’s best to keep the one they have. Plus, I’m sure he could use the work.

I’ll hold judgement for the JLA movie until I see it. Everyone is bashing this film before it has even started shooting. I’m on the wait and see plan.

If it wasn’t for Indy, The Dark Knight would be my number one anticipated film this year.

  24. Im in the minority but I LOVED Superman Returns and I would have put the Returns Sequel at the top of my “most anticipated” list as soon as it was confirmed.

I understand why fans didnt like Singers story, but I really think he would have delivered an amazing story in the sequel. He set up some real weakness for The Man of Steel (His lack of weakness is really his biggest fault in the films) and it would have been fun to see him put through the wringer.

Now we will get some awful knee-jerk reaction Superman movie that will have no heart, no brain and just a bunch of crap I can see on Saturday Morning cartoons.

    Oh well.

  25. I’m not really as devastated as I imagined with the news that Bryan Singer may not be doing another Superman. I wasn’t a big fan of the last one, the choice in Superman was good but I thought the choice for Lois was way off…and a kid, what in the nine hells were they thinking? They should have stepped away from the previous movie franchise and done their own version.

Nolan and another Batman? I’ll probably wait to fully judge that when the movie comes out. From what I’ve seen though he’s done a stand up job with casting, (even though I was one that almost dropped to the floor when I heard Ledger’s name as joker) and even giving us fans a taste of what he’s done already.

As for Justice League….YAWNFEST!!! Seriously, can you say F.U.B.A.R.?
