‘Transformers 2’ Release Date Has Been Delayed

Surprise, Surprise! Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the June 26th ,2009 release date for the highly anticipated sequel, ‘Transformers 2’ will probably be pushed back. However, Michael Bay may have suggested otherwise on his personal website.

Slashfilm gives us these details:

Director Michael Bay posted a New Years greeting on his website, adding that “Transformers 2 will be coming soon.” I’m not sure if that is a confirmation, denial or something entirely unrelated. Bay also adds a little of his patented hype: “The new robots are really really unique and there are a lot of them this time.”

I hate to say this, but it looks like the writer’s strike may be responsible for this delay.  I know there are a lot of fans out there really excited about seeing this film in 2009, but it looks like they might have to wait a year. In my opinion, I don’t think this will hurt the franchise by waiting one more year.  Look at the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise for instance.  It made large money with 3 year intervals in between sequels.

So you ‘Transformers’ fans out there, it looks like you’re going to have to be even more patient.  Don’t worry, the sequel should be well worth the wait.

  1. tidal wave would be soo awesome to see!!
imagine a massive fight in the middle of the film..and the best bit would be seeing his transformation in CGI!!
who reckons unicron could be introduced…like he could start attacking in the end of 2…and in t3 is when the autobots/decepticosn kick his ass…i means this is all a maybe..but yh..itd be sweet

  2. Boo Transformerss II . Boo. Find somewhere else to fish.

@”What’s frustrating about this news is that now we’re waiting on TF2 probably for another year because of this stupid strike so that we can get the very people back who were most responsible for screwing up the first movie.”

You mean Mikey Bay? He’ll be coming back no matter what so it dosn’t really matter.

  3. Hmmm….how would an aircraft carrier decepticon be defeated in TF2……probably in some way by the 4 year old waiting on the tooth fairy…..cuz there’s really no chance an Autobot would do anything helpful in it.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the new movie….or rather the idea of seeing Transformers in “real life” but the storyline that was given to us took the idea of Autobots fighting a war against Decepticons and turned it into Autobots kinda hanging out while the US Military fights the cons……Now, I liked seeing the Military get in the fight, and didn’t mind the idea of them “helping” but other than prime tripping Megatron and catching Spike…er…Sam…..they could have cut 20 minutes out of the movie by not having the other autobots show up at all and just having Bumblebee be saved by Sam and the G.I. Joe knock-offs and i’m not sure anybody would have noticed.

What’s frustrating about this news is that now we’re waiting on TF2 probably for another year because of this stupid strike so that we can get the very people back who were most responsible for screwing up the first movie.

Sadly just because they may wait another year doesn’t(in my opinion) mean they will take any more time on the script than they would have anyways…..in fact they’ll probably bang it out even faster so they can go on to writing Star Trek 12 and any number of other projects that will need done when this strike finally ends.

hopefully i’m wrong, but we’ll find out in 2010…or 11…or well, maybe at some point…it all depends on this srike…the question I have is…now what is gonna take TF2’s spot for the 4th in 09? These big action flicks take time…..is 09 gonna end up being the year of the 4th of July love story blockbuster event?

  4. @ Tanaka:

In the almighty name of product placement, I’m pretty sure Bay and co. will find new and clever ways of introducing new brands to the Transformer universe, imagine a new All-spark hitting a Radio Shack, Home Depot, or Bestbuy, the possibilities are endless.

Personally, I can’t wait to see an Autobot Coca-Cola Machine square off against the evil Decepticon Mountain Dew vending machine.

  5. KRISTINA AND RUSTY JAMES NOW WHAT THEY ARE SAYING!!
    AND THEY LIKED THE MOVIE!!!
IMAGINE THOSE WHO HATED ….LIKE ME!!!!
SO…..TAKE YOUR TIME BAY TAKE YOUR GODDANMTIME!!!!

  6. I think that Michael Bay and his over-produced action scenes are perfect for the Transformers films. All I ask for is a story that is a little bit deeper, which is usually my complaint in any given summer blockbuster.

  7. With the same writers and director, there won’t be any major changes to this franchise, good for the people who liked this movie, bad for those who didn’t.

Expect more wackyness from Agent Simmons(now an established character), Frenzy(returning as Rumble), new Transformers(HD-DVDs, toasters, Nintendo Wiis), and all the things that go into a Micheal Bay summer blockbuster (bad dialog, cookie-cutter plots, over produced action scenes, shots of people walking out of perpetual sunsets and hubcap closeups).

  8. Kristina, I suppose they could make all those improvements but they have no reason to. The fans (inexplicably) seem to like it just fine as is. This is a series that’s bad by design. You’re kidding yourself if you think they’re taking this time to fix the script.
Transformers fans are starting to sound a lot Superman Returns fans “I know the movie had a lot of problems but… I really like Jimmy Olsen in it”.

  9. Kristina, I totally agree with everything you said about the movie, and I liked it a lot too. It would have been a lot better if the Autobots would have just kicked a little bit more ass.

  10. Good. This will give them time to write a script that does not involve pissing robots, pissing dogs, obnoxious government agents, token hotties who do nothing except look hot and take up space, shaking seizure camera, villains who do not appear until the last twenty minutes of the film, villains who vanish without explanation(Barricade!), and heroes who actually DO something! As cool as Optimus was, he didn’t beat Megatron. Megatron owned Opimus throughout that whole fight(or at least what we could SEE of the fight). Sam’s the one who finally takes Megatron out. Hell, if you watch that movie, the Autobots are made to look pretty damn helpless. Who ultimately finds the Allspark? The kid. Who decides how the final mission is going to go down? The soldier guy. Also, I know they aren’t supposed to hurt humans, but come on! Bumblebee gets captured, tortured, and if it wasn’t for Sam, they probably would have killed him. Starscream takes down Ironhide and Ratchet in about five seconds! That movie gives the strong impression that the humans can handle the Decepticons all by themselves! Hell, Optimus and his buddies might as well stay in that field and watch the kids make out, since their services aren’t really required, huh?

And this is from someone who liked the movie, BTW.
