RE: Ghostbusters finally has a cast… and it’s AWFUL

Ghostbusters

kristen-wiig-12I really, really, really hope it’s not a reboot. Like Wiig being the brains and creating proton packs, etc.? Is that what we are going to see? Science experiment turned ghostbusting? I’m absolutely unsure about this whole premise, mainly because everything is already established. And to me that’s part of the what’s possibly being lost here.

The characterization of the ghostbusters was what made it fun, yet this all female cast is like you said extremely predictable. I like Wiig, I think she’s actually cute and sheepishly funny. Not in a way to say she is sheepish, but that her comedy isn’t flamboyant a McCarthy, who I fully expect to be doing fat jokes throughout the movie like “why are there so many stairs in this building” or “why are these proton packs so heavy” type of thing. And part of her hilarity comes from the outright vulgarity for example The Heat. Even thinking about that, Sandra Bullock could’ve been a much more interesting casting job.

But the predictability here, especially if it’s a reboot, to me, is pretty bland. If a modern representation were to happen, given all the horror or supernatural films we have today. This new film should focus more on the lore, with a simple nod of say a cameo of Ray and Winston perhaps teaching or passing the torch. It doesn’t necessarily have to be blatant, but it should be smart.

I haven’t watched the league yet, but I’m with you in the premise it should’ve been young students or the like. Maybe mythbusters or paranormal chasers and playing to that angle. The all female cast feels stereotypical even with its ethnicity. I honestly can’t help but feel we’ll be getting the exact same original movie just with females.

A lot of what I’ve said might be presumptuous. But given the extreme difficulty whether it be Murray or whatever else of getting another Ghostbusters movie made, I really, really don’t understand why they would reboot this franchise, if it is in fact a full reboot. Ghostbusters blatantly plays to the nostalgia, but should touch upon the lore more so, what if ghostbusting was more in the vein of Men in Black society? I think part of this, it just doesn’t feel fresh and whatever may come out, we would’ve seen before.

I dunno, after the ghostbusters video game ended up being the real sequel to the films. I figured this franchise was already long and buried.
