Channing Tatum had previously stated that Bennet Miller’s (Moneyball, Capote) upcoming film Foxcatcher had been his most challenging role. Almost two years have passed since that statement and now we finally have a trailer that gives us a glimpse into a possible breakthrough performance for both Channing Tatum and Steve Carell. Take a look at the trailer below.

Director Bennet Miller has a small list of films on his resume but a majority of his feature films have already gained Oscar recognition. This film has a lot of promise and could mean great things for the future of Carell and Tatum or it could keep them confined to the genres they’re known for if they fail to perform. Many genre specific actors have attempted to be more versatile by taking roles outside of their comfort zone and it can be a very slippery slope for their career. This teaser for Foxcatcher seems like it could be a game changer for these actors seeing that Carell has already prepared himself for a more versatile role and the role of a jock wrestler would be an easier transition for Tatum given his roles. Personally I love a great sports adaptation and especially if it’s wrestling. The film premieres November 14th at Cannes which is during prime time for Oscar buzz.

About Ryan

First and foremost, Ryan Brown is a fan. He has been an avid fan of both the theater and cinema since an early age and his passion for both has been continually growing ever since. When dissecting a film, he focuses on all elements of film-making including some fan/cult factors. He believes that character development is the foundation of a good film and usually starts his analysis of a film from there moving forward. His writing style may be influenced by his background of narrative and argumentative studies in the subject, but he tends to enjoy a more conversational style to better interact with the readers, unlike some other pretentious and pompous writers.
