How is Summer 2013 film wise stacking up for you so far?

At The Movie Blog, we’re always looking ahead to see what is up and coming each respective week at the box office. It becomes somewhat of a laundry list especially to what we can cover and review, but also just as movie fans ourselves what to watch next. After all we LOVEFilM and it’s a discussion I’ve had internally here and wanted to throw it back to you the visitors.

How is Summer 2013 film wise stacking up for you so far?

I feel, especially in recent years even comparatively to last year, this summer has been better than most. I think Hollywood in general has become smarter in regards to trying to get the audience to ‘want to go to the theatre’ and thus for the most part, certain films see timely releases. There is always seemingly a pre-requisite to having a sure fire blockbuster and in 2012 we had Marvel’s The Avengers and the final installment to the Nolan Batman trilogy with The Dark Knight Rises. Both of these films have gone on to gross over a billion dollars worldwide. If a summer movie list even matters to you as viewers, do you take gross into account? Or is it a matter of how many times you might’ve found yourself in the theatre? And in the end did you enjoy the movies that came out last summer over the previous summer and so forth.

So far this summer we’ve had Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious 6, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Man of Steel as four genuine separate blockbusters (and we’re just coming to the end of June). There are other notable films such as The Great Gatsby, World War Z, and Monsters University which have filled the void in between. Along with other surprises and sequels such as Now You See Me and The Hangover III. It could be the sheer amount of films I’ve seen this summer so far, but everything about this summer in particular and even looking forward to July and August seems like a more balanced theatre experience (if it mattered at all).

Moving forward (to name a few) we still have White House Down, Despicable Me 2, The Lone Ranger, Grown Ups 2, Pacific Rim, R.E.D 2, R.I.P.D, The Wolverine, The Smurfs 2, Elysium , Planes, Kick-Ass 2, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, 2 Guns, and The World’s End. Are you planning to catch any of these listed movies going forward? Have some films already released disappointed you? Are you a theatre junkie or are you waiting to just stream/rent specific movies later once they hit home theatre release? I know for myself summer movies have been a relative fun highlight each and every year. So how has this summer stack up for you so? We’d love for you to sound off on your thoughts below!
