Riddick – Debut trailer

The debut trailer for Riddick (2013) has popped up. After cult success, this is the second sequel to the character of the same name played by Vin Diesel. This sequel was rumored for sometime, going back to 2006, following the releases of Pitch Black (2000) and The Chronicles of Riddick (2004). Since then the title has seen its mythos expanded through various other pieces of collateral such as video games and novelization.

I’m a big fan of the character and franchise in general, so this film is highly anticipated on my end, personally speaking. The trailer overall wasn’t what I expected, it seemed like an upscaled version of Pitch Black, but I think it also plays credence to more so the visuals of the world/setting of Riddick. The film was independently financed so in some ways this sequel even happening was a miracle given how long it loomed in the ‘maybe someday/probably never’ category. I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt and hope there is more tie-ins from what we know of events film wise and the continued exploration into the characters and world overall. And really that’s the point of movie watching, a film will either meet our expectations or it won’t. Otherwise the trailer is pretty cool to watch, so check it out and sound off below!

Riddick comes out in theatres on September 6, 2013.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
