Images and casting: The Dark Knight Returns

Remember a while back when we mentioned that DC was making an animated adaptation of Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns”? I didn’t forget and neither did DC. In case you’re memories need a bit of jogging DC has released a couple of images from the upcoming DVD/VOD/Blu-Ray as well as announcing the voice of a familiar voice Batman/Bruce Wayne that’s NOT named Kevin Conroy!

Some of the voice cast has been announced and Peter Weller (Robocop, Buckaroo Banzai) is voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne. Ariel Winter (Modern Family) will play Robin. Wade Williams (Prison Break) will voice Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Michael McKean will play Dr. Wolper

Peter Weller as old man Bruce? That’s such an interesting idea that it’s downright intriguing. Don’t get me wrong becasue I’m a Kevin Conroy fanboy like the rest of you, and I wondered how he could make his gravely Batman voice sound old but DCAF have a habit of switching up the cast and shaking things up every few films. Some to great success and occasionally are better than expected. The “Under The Red Hood” film with the return of Jason Todd provided us with a John DiMaggio Joker that I’m surprised to admit that I enjoyed considering I’m also a Mark Hamill fanboy for that character… But this is Robocop! If anyone can pull off old man Batman fist fighting with gangs in garbage dumps it’s Peter “Robocop” Weller.
