Red Band Trailer: Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters

Seems like the fine folks at Paramount made it through Hurricane Sandy just fine. Not only did they share some nice clips of Denzel Washinton on David Letterman that I’ll try to share later today, they managed to send me a new red band trailer for the long delayed Jeremy Renner/Gemma Arterton flick “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters”. Red band no less. Let’s see what’s in store and prematurely judge if it’s worth the wait:

After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton)  have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution.  Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past.

Hmm. I like Renner, and I like looking at Arterton, but this movie has me apprehensive. It has a really fun premise in finding out the “what would happen if they grew up badass” question that practically nobody asked with the fairy tale, but there are seriously some aspects of this film that have me getting “Van Helsing/Abe Lincoln: VH” vibes. The abundance of blood and death is SUPPOSED to attract me to this film. Instead it gives me the feeling that they’re just putting their best foot forward and that there’s a turd under all that blood. At least they have Peter Stormare and Famke going for them. This film is co-produced by Will Ferrell and has a January 11, 2013 release date… but it’s not on the radar.
