Police Academy reboot has a director

Don’t doubt the Guttenberg. The man had mentioned that a script was being prepared a few years back and it seems that there has been some progress made behind the scenes for the film as the movie now has a director.

…in 2010, THR confirmed that New Line Cinema was looking to reboot the franchise. And now comes word that Scott Zabielski has been hired to direct the new film. Zabielski is making his feature directing debut after having helmed several episodes of the hit Comedy Central show “Tosh.0.”

YEAH! Guttenberg is back so I’m game for this. Sure, they diluted the hell out of the series with needless sequels but those were without the Goot. As most, I will certainly miss David Graf and I don’t foresee anyone “filling” his shoes but I look forward to seeing what these guys have in store for this movie and if it can live up to my lofty expectations.

I do have some reservations with the director. I like Tosh.O as much as the next guy, meaning mildly, so let’s just say that I’m “apprehensively optimistic”. I’ll stay tuned…

  1. If they were going to use some of the same characters, Steve Howey would make a perfect Tackleberry. He looks like a younger version and when he’s playing his goofy self is pretty much like him.

  2. Don’t forget also, the passing of Bubba Smith, who played one of the franchise’ key characters – Moses Hightower. If they’re going for another film, I’d say make it a sequel (I know, ANOTHER sequel) and just have Guttenberg play as captain or commandant, overseeing a new group. I wouldn’t bother with the rest of the old cast, as fond as I am of many of them.

Still, I’d like to see a fresh entry in the series. If they have as much fun making the reboot as they did with the first film, it could be a real cracker!
