RUMOR: Rhys Ifans joins Bond 23

Rhys Ifans will not let this opportunity slip through his scaly fingers. Rhys will be appearing in next years’ Amazing Spider-Man movie as Dr. Curt Connors, which is most assuredly a tentpole pic for Sony and their marketing. Who know, maybe he’ll get a cereal. It’s a big opportunity and he intends to parlay that opportunity into regular consistent work and is aiming to re-team with Dan Craig for the next James Bond movie.

The Telegraph reports that Ifans will appear in James Bond’s next and also confirms again that Javier Bardem will play the film’s villain. The article also states that “much of the filming will take place in South Africa.”  Ifans and Craig have worked together previously; Ifans played Craig’s stalker in 2004’s ENDURING LOVE.

Smart man! Don’t just settle for any ol movie, get yourself involved in another franchise! It works. I also hear that he’s also a pretty decent actor and may add some more talent to the film that needs to redeem itself for those disappointed by Quantum of Solace. I think it’s a move in the right direction, but seriously: Javier Bardem, Voldemort, AND the Lizard? Bond has his work cut out for him.

  1. He’s a busy guy as of late, bouncing from one audition to the next. I’m glad he’s getting more roles, and in such huge franchises too. When I first found out that he’d be playing Luna Lovegood’s dad in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I couldn’t imagine any other actor more appropriate for the part. Luna’s just such a funny, bizzare, lively character and that fits Rhys. He played a character just like that in the film ‘Notting Hill’ named Spike. This film had such an offbeat cast, one of the craziest in any movie, beginning with him. Up for a videofest tonight?

Of course I’m not suggesting he be typecast in that sort of quirky role, and I’m glad he’s branching out into these other supporting roles in serious films, because he is a phenomenal actor. He’ll do very well playing Dr. Connors in Spiderman AND starring opposite Dan Craig in the next James Bond film. I can only imagine one thing going through his mind when auditioning for the latter part, spoken by Max in ‘Notting Hill’; “James Bond never has to put up with this sort of shit.” Lol. It was too tempting, I couldn’t resist.
