Is Bond 23 called Skyfall?

Bond titles are usually fun and faintly poetic in reflecting the actual premise of the movie, so fans have been eager to better deduce the title for the upcoming new movie starring Daniel Craig. Well, it seems that earlier reports of the title being “Carte Blanche” may be a bit off as some internet sleuths determined that Sony has been registering domain name titles that are not Carte Blanche.

the MGM and Sony Pictures release, slated for late 2012, will likely be called Skyfall, according to several domain name registrations that were privately purchased through brand protection company MarkMonitor this week. Sony Pictures has used MarkMonitor for thousands of domain names, including SonyPictures.com, according to the site.

Fusible said that among the Web addresses purchased are JamesBond-Skyfall.com and Skyfallthefilm.com. The company had registered other Skyfall names back in August, it said.

Sounds interesting as I don’t know of any Fleming novels that bear this name. Of course maybe some of you sleuths more familiar with the books can help give us more insight into what this title may be referring to? Anyone?

  1. Kinda surprised. I was expecting Property of a Lady or Risico, or even The Hidebrand Rarity – all short story titles, and the only original Fleming titles left. Skyfall is fine with me, though I sort of wished the earlier reports of Red Sky at Night were true.

  2. Skyfall has nothing to do with Ian Fleming. Never named in one of his (14) books . So what’s the title referring to? The main villain, Mr Skyfall? A code name, like Operation Skyfall? It could be anything but I’m sure the found something interesting, like they did with the secret organisation called Quantum…
