Coming Soon: ‘Justice League: Doom’

I’m a humongous fan of the DC Animated films. They are almost always of great quality, performance, and usually pretty faithful to their source materials. Seriously, ANYTHING developed by these guys immediately goes on my “must watch” list to the point that I even try to catch them in theaters whenever possible. After watching the recent “Batman: Year One” trailer I had one thought echoing in my head while listening to Benjamin McKenzie try his best Dark Knight Impression and that’s “I really miss Kevin Conroy”. Well, I was very excited to learn that he’s still around voicing the caped crusader and will return in this years’ Justice League Doom.

One of DC Entertainment’s upcoming animated features, ‘Justice League: Doom’ is sticking with tradition, rounding up voice actors from many of the popular television series. TV Guide reports that Kevin Conroy of ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ will once again reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Tim Daly of ‘Superman’ will play Clark Kent/Superman. Rounding out the cast are ‘Justice League’ alumni Michael Rosenbaum as the Flash, Carl Lumbly as Martian Manhunter, and Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman. A character who never made a formal appearance in ‘Justice League,’ Cyborg is voiced by Bumper Robinson of ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold.’

The animated film is inspired by the comic, ‘Justice League of America: Tower of Babel’ from author, Mark Waid.

It might as well be called a Justice League Unlimited movie! The addition of Cyborg is odd, but welcome choice and is probably being used to help re-enforce the emphasis on the character being spearheaded by DC’s “New 52” and their initiative to display a more diverse DC Universe.

The Tower of Babel storyline centers on Batman and his ability to determine, and plan accordingly for, the weaknesses of his opponents with this particular story showcasing Batman’s plans for the Justice League in case any member decides to go rogue. It’s one of my favorite stories because it helped shape the outlook of Batman based on a jury of his peers despite his altruistic motivations. I’m really glad to hear that they’re gathering the cast of the show together for this one and am looking forward to the premiere of the trailer next month.

  1. I am definitely looking forward to Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, and Nathan Fillion all reprising their roles as Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern respectively. I loved the Batman and Superman cartoon shows from the 90s as well as Nathan Fillion’s work on Firefly and the latest GL animated flick. This film is definitely on my radar.
