Benecio Del Toro will NOT be in Star Trek sequel

Another day, another harsh lesson as to why I shouldn’t get too comfortable with an actor/actress being associated with a project. Word is out that Benicio Del Toro will not participate in the upcoming Star Trek sequel and Abrams’ and company are hard pressed to find another suitable actor.

Last week J.J. Abrams went out of his way to say that Del Toro will not be playing the villain Khan. Now Vulture reports that the deal “went asunder” because the two parties couldn’t resolve the money issue.

With shooting scheduled to start in January, Abrams will have to move quickly to fill the role that is still unknown.

This is disappointing news for all trekkies, but I’m sure Abrams will come up with something. I wasn’t too thrilled with the rumors that were cicrulating that he would be re-inventing and re-introducing the character of Khan and had hoped that Del Toro would have become my new favorite Klingon. Either way I’m excited to find out how things proceed from here and whom will fill the gaping hole now left by Del Toro.
