Zorro getting a reboot?

It hasn’t been that long since the 2005 Zorro movie that starred Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta jones, has it? Well, Sony thinks it’s a fine time to begin planning a re-introduction of the character as they’ve hired writers to begin re-telling the masked crusaders’ origin.

ony Pictures has tapped TV scribes Matthew Federman & Stephen Scaia to write the studio’s reboot of the Zorro franchise, which won’t be a remake but an origin tale of the comic book icon based on the 2005 Isabel Allende novel…

ederman and Scaia are known for their TV work — their credits include Jericho, Warehouse 13 and Human Target and they currently serve as supervising producers on ABC’s Charlie’s Angels.

Now this is certainly interesting news. I was recently thinking about the character and how he was portrayed on screen prior to watching this film and I’m pleasantly surprised to find that I’m not the only person who had Zorro on his mind. I think it’s a fine time to re-introduce the character as this new generation can be taught to respect and admire the character as my generation. I’m not familiar with any work by the writing duo but if they are able to churn out a good script then I’m game.

  1. Hey Hollywood!!!! Stop rebooting things that don’t need to be rebooted. While a little cheesy at times Legend of Zorro was a fun film; action, comedy, latin spice, it was a entertaining. Mask of Zorro was a knockout it had everything worth seeing in a film, action, comedy, drama once again a solid fun film.

Hollywood, listen not every character has a need for a reboot, not every director is a Christopher Nolan who created a wonderful reboot series. So please stop acting like there is a need to keep rebooting all these franchises…
