Dragonriders Of Pern Flying To a cinemaplex Near You

It seems Hollywood has decided to give the audience more dragons, this time around, The Anne McCaffery kind. That’s right, the Dragonriders Of Pern- the first book of many- is getting adapted. Cinemablend reports:

David Hayter has been hired to adapt the popular book series Dragonriders of Pern into a feature film.

Here’s what makes McCaffrey’s dragons different from anything else you’ve ever seen or read on the subject: It’s not fantasy. It’s not even set on Earth. Her Dragonrider books are science fiction, set on a distant alien planet colonized by humans so long ago that they’ve forgotten they’re colonists.

The focus will be on Dragonflight novel for the time being- but there’s a whole series of books that started back in 1968, so there’s lot of material (22 novels, not counting other media) to choose from. Hayter, of course had contributed to the X-Men 2 and adapted Watchmen, so there’s a bit of promise there. There is no director as of yet; but Don Murphy (Transformers) is producing.

So, how about it, folks? Would you like to see the alien world of Pern up on the screens?

  1. It’s about freaking time, the Dragons of Pern books are some of the best out there, I just hope they stick to the story line and characters that Anne McCaffrey created on that wonderful planet of Pern with it’s gentle dragons.

  2. I’ve SO been waiting for this! The technology is finally sufficient to do the dragons and thread-fighting justice. But they’d better have Jackson or Cameron at the helm or it’s just going to end up being one big cock-up. I really hope they put in the time, effort and money this franchise deserves.
