Watch the ‘Three Musketeers’ trailer

Paul W.S. Anderson has been working on the Three Musketeer for a while, which also marks the momentous return of Orlando Bloom to the world of film after taking a hiatus to hone his craft. Let’s take a look at how things turned out.

I like what I’m seeing here. I haven’t watched a ‘Three Musketeers’ movie since I watched the Man in the Iron Mask, (I know!), and this looks like an entertaining way to get re-acquainted with the characters as I’m usually a sucker for anything with Bruckheimer level explosions. Paul W.S. Anderson is really hit or miss with me with this one leaning toward ‘hit’ so far, and I’m always looking forward to seeing how he fits in Milla Jovovich.

  1. This looks all wrong for a 3 Musketeers movie. The action, while cool, is over the top in the wrong way. And I’m not sure I agree with the casting–it seems odd. Sorry, but bring back Kiefer, Charlie and Oliver.

  2. yeahhhh… I am not looking forward to this at all. I agree with everyones reaction about the flying ship considering we don’t have flying boats now, why they expect someone to have created one back in that time period is confusing. Might as well have orlando bloom whip out an Iphone with an app that shoots real musket bullets. All this trailer made me want was a musketeer chocolate bar… and that is all.

    1. I actually don’t mind the layer of ‘fantasy’ that they’re including and like Audrey I think it could be a fun summer flick.

Seems like something out of a JRPG with a little pirates of the carribbean, sure, but it still seems fun and a tad unique.

  3. Wow after a long hiatus(? a couple of quick years?)and It’s nice to see Bloom not type-casting himself anymore on those sword wielding, horse riding period pieces!

    Oh……Wait.

    :)

    Prince of Persia-3 Musketeers style.
    $1.00 DVD rental

  4. Three Musketeers meet SteamPunk; it can work but if he’s supposed to make three of these he better explain how and why there are flying ships if he wants us to go along for a whole trilogy.

The corridor scene with Milla is just too Resident Evil slow-mo crap for me
I have an inexplicable aversion to Jovovich much like the one I have for Michelle Rodriguez, I just don’t like them.

    Still this looks kinda cool.
At least the fight scenes seem to be well shot unlike most action movies these days. It,s been an eternity since we’ve seen good sword fights on screen.

  5. I love me some Ray Stevenson he is just a badass (bias due to ROME). I think this is just some good ol’fashion fun here UNLIKE SUCKER PUNCH – Waste of my F’n Life!

  6. IDK, this looks like a fun summer movie…I agree that it would be nice to have a straight-up adaptation of The Three Musketeers (something in the vein of The Count of Monte Cristo with Jim Caviezel would be cool), but it’s still fun.

It totally brought back memories of the Charlie Sheen-Kiefer Sutherland version from the 90s, which is good for a laugh.

I’m excited to watch Logan Lerman as his career develops…but what in the name of insanity is on his head? That wig is terrible!

Also, lulz at the “momentous return of Orlando Bloom”…because when I read that I thought, “He went away?”

  7. WS Anderson is great at taking good ideas and ruining them.

Is it too much to ask for a straight forward filming of the novel? Its good. Its action packed. It doesn’t need flying boats. Really.

    1. I agree. I was really hoping that Doug Liman’s version beat Anderson’s to the punch. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The book is great, but it doesn’t have a strong overarching plot–its mostly episodic in nature, which I’m sure makes for a difficult adaptation. Still, flying boats are unnecessary.
