Amy Adams is Lois Lane

Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel has its big blue boyscout, and even his parents locked in but the remaining question has been who might win the heart of the Last Son of Krypton.

Well it was announced today that Academy Award Nominee Amy Adams will be playing Lois Lane.

EOnline says:

Snyder says in a statement: “Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about. So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.”

I think this is likely the best casting news I have heard for this film. I like who they have lined up for Superman and even thought it was good casting for Mr and Mrs Kent. But this news now has me really jonesing for this movie.

Lois Lane is a strong bold character that I felt they really messed up in Superman Returns. But I think that Amy Adams has the spine to carry off a very likable and very attractive Lois Lane that will be strong and vulnerable at the same time.

I wonder if she will go with the classic dark locks of Ms Lane, or will they enrage the fanboys and make Lane a ginger?

The film is already in pre-production and Snyder will have cameras rolling this summer.

  1. I just read this – any truth moving forward: “Amy Adams being cast as Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, is a cover up and she is actually going to play Lana Lang. Rumours also are saying that Lois is going to be portrayed by Michelle Monaghan”

  2. color her hair raven black and you will have the perfect Lois Lane (i.e. – Sumperman Animated) – This is actually turning out to sound like a good reboot, pending villian – as all comic book movies are gaged on.

  3. Amy Adams definitely can pull off that strong, beautiful character type. If you’ve seen the Fighter, then ya know what I’m talking about. Not much of a Superman fan myself, but a solid cast like this ought to change my mind.

  4. Good thing Zack Snyder didn’t cast a Victoria’s Secret-type Lois Lane (paging Michael Bay). He knows the movie audiences are very discerning and intelligent.

  5. I’m actually pretty excited for this movie now. Love Henry Cavill, love Amy Adams…well done, Zach Snyder! Kate Bosworth did this in the last film, right? She was really forgettable, it’ll be nice to have a really strong actress in the role. :)

      1. I dont think she is a bad actress really, she was just miscast in that role. She didnt have the chops to pull off the character as we know her. Amy Adams definately does. The Fighter proved that, among other films.

      2. I don’t blame Kate Bosworth for Superman Returns. That whole movie sucked. It wasn’t just down to one performance. None of the movie felt right. It was just a homage to Singer’s love for Donner’s Superman. On a whole, I think everybody did fine with what they were given to work with. The movie was just badly executed and boring. I don’t think Singer had a full grasp of the characters.

  6. I would like it if she dyed it dark (some actors have been known to do such things) but y’know what? If Amy didn’t darken her locks, it means piddly squit to me. Why? You could call this movie Pure Dirt and I’d go see it because Amy Adams is in it…and Diane Lane, for that matter.

For once my hopes for this Supey film just went up a bit.
As for the response to Snyder’s Sucker Punch taking a whippin from the Wimpy Kids is nothing short of irrelevant. Is that mis-fire supposed to make me forget about 300 and WAtchmen? If so, it isn’t working.

  7. I like this casting a ton but man did Sucker Punch take the wind out of my sails for this movie. I was so juiced for his take on Superman but do you realize how much Sucker Punch pained me as a movie – A LOT.

  8. I like it. She’s alot older than Cavill, but she really doesnt look it, and hopefully she can bring some moxy to the role, like others have said.

  9. Nice. Hopefully she’ll add some “cojones” to the part Margot Kidder retired long ago. Kate was practically invisable in that role.

    Coming together nicely.

  10. i thought they would of gone for a younger actress however, amy adams is suited for the lois lane role but, i can’t help but think about the age difference between her and Henry Cavill then again age is just a number and at least amy is more well known with audiences than Henry Cavill

  11. Now this girl can act! I agree that Returns Lois just didn’t fit what we expect out of Lois but neither did Singer’s take on Superman. Routh did well with what he was given, it just wasn’t much. Now Amy Adams, I’ve liked her in everything I’ve seen her in. Loved her in The Fighter. Synder isn’t a actors director but he doesn’t need to be when he gets talent like Adams. Even if she’s given crap she has the chops to turn it into cream soda. Good pick Mr. Synder.

  12. Perfect casting. Great actress with tons of moxie needed to play LL.
I could care less about hair color but I guess they would darken it.
Woulda been fun just to announce her casting and let fanboys speculate she was playing Lana Lang!
