‘The Amazing Spider-Man’: July 3, 2012

Columbia pictures has finally announced that the Marc Webb helmed Spider-Man movie finally has an official title and release date.

Coming Soon reports:

The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

While they were busy dishing out the official title they were also kind enough to release an official picture of Andrew Garfield, (presumably), in the full Spider-Man costume with mask.

We get a good feel for the changes made to the costume as it seems to be a clear amalgamation of the classic Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099.There’s still a lot that I don’t like about the costume but I do like the pose that’s being used as it’s classic spidey imagery. Even though I’m not thrilled with the design I’m still looking forward to a trailer, and the full film release to help squash any reservations that I still have with this movie.

  1. hate the suit!I’ve seen downhill ski suits that look better. The back of the suit really rots! like its half finished.Maybe it is and we’re only seeing pre-production shots.(wishful thinking) I’m not crazy about Garfield as Peter Parker either.Hopefully the story and characterization make up for any anal expectations on my part.

  2. Why go the whole hog and mess with the costume from the comics?? they could have just gone with a different shape from the previous movies for the eye-lenses and it would have been really different. different artists and different titles have different spidey white eyes. Raimi movies= triangular eyes / comic books= well, comic-book like. big eyes like from Ultimate Spidey would have totally rocked!!

  3. I’m getting more and more excited about this movie. Personally, I thought Maguire was a terrible Spider-man. Garfield seems to have the right personality and look for the web head. Plus Zach Webb has proven that he knows how relationships work on film, and Spider-man is all about relationships between characters (plus his name is Webb, so he’s perfect for it).

  4. Maybe the costume will change as the character develops, but it looks good so far. Just can’t take to Garfield though, maybe a teaser trailer at least could dispel this slight worry.

Other than that, I look forward to seeing the villains.

  5. After seeing this in its full glory I have to say I am on board now with this project. I like Garfield I just saw social network and all i though about was man I can’t wait to see this guy do Peter Parker.

  6. I’m cool with the small changes. Look, there have been many different tweeks to the suit in the comics, so this should obviously be the case with a new franchise. I dontt know bout the rest of you guys but I also dont have a problem with a new reboot/take so soon. I’m a long time Spidey fan and would want restart every year after each trilogy closes anyway. This is coming together pretty nicely BUT the closer will be the Bad Assness or non-Bad Assnes of it’s villan and chemistry not between the two leads but chemistry between the new film and us fans.

    nuff said.

also had some 2099 vibes at first but this tilts more in Peter Parker/Spectacular Spiderman territory.
    (Love the Title though!)

  7. I think the suit looks great, subtle nuances to differentiate from the Raimi/Maguire suit yet still immediately recognizable as a new spider-man. I was at first skeptical about the web shooters, because I thought making them “organic” ultimately made sense tot he plot, but seeing the suit now with the shooters, it’s growing on me and I see how it can add a layer of drama to the action.

I really like Garfield and was never truly sold on the Raimi Spider-man films. They were good, but I never thought the were great, personally. Im looking forward to this.

  8. The costume resemebles the Clone Spider Man (Ben Reily), May Parker version in my opinion actually. I think the blue should still have a darker tint to it, but the “webs” on his face look more like squares then webs actually, the lines don’t have any curve to them to resemble a web. Will have to hold some judgement until I see a trailer.

  9. I like the suit! Kudos to the costume designer for making the Spider-man suit unique, yet still identifiable.

Are you skeptical about this movie only because of the suit, or is there more that makes you nervous?

I was skeptical when I first heard that Marvel was immediately rebooting the Spider-man franchise, but all my reservations vanished as news about the movie has come forth.

  10. I think this will the trend :

    The Amazing Spiderman (Part1 )
    The Spectacular Spiderman (Part 2)
    Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman (Part 3)
Peter Parker : Spiderman (Part 4)
    Ultimate Spiderman (Part 5)

      1. Looks like Squares to me, where the web is suppose to be radiating from between his eyes. I like Raimi’s design because he stuck with Todd Mcfarlane’s art.

      2. Todd McFarlane’s variation of the Spiderman outfit was not the first Spider-Man costume either.

They all have very similar themes, and just because these are a little more square than the very squarish web patterns on Raimi’s Spider-Man is hardly a deal breaker.

People are splitting hairs on a costume you HAD to know was going to be a little different.

This version still very much looks and feels like Spider-Man and draws inspiration from a wide number of costumes the Webhead has worn over the decades.
