Japan’s Paranormal Activities seeing Western Release

Last year Paramount Studio’s released Paranormal Activity 2 into theatres, only it wasn’t the only sequel made to the first hit film. Japan got its own sequel Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night.

Bloody Disgusting reports:

While Paranormal Activity 2 was making box office gold here in the States, Japan quietly released Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night, their own direct sequel to Oren Peli’s smash hit indie from 2009. Directed by Toshikazu Nagae, we learned that Amazon UK has listed the haunted house flick for pre-order on February 28 from Icon.

The original almost felt like a film from Japan, or even asia where ghost films are usually a little different from North Americas normal fair. The ghost stories normally made in hollywood are usually very glossy and go for either the gore or the hip teenage market, where the asian films usually attempt to go for the scare.

Now I really liked the first film and have yet to see the second, but I heard about this film before the American part 2 was released. I have to say I’ve been more intrigued to see the Japanese film more than the American film.

Anyone other than me hoping for a wider western release for this film?

  1. Japan has quite a reputation for doing fantastic ghost stories. They don’t rely on gore as much as Western ghost movies do. Instead, they play with you mind to make you jumpy.
I wasn’t a fan of Paranormal Activity, but knowing there is a Japanese sequal, I’m more inclined to go check that out.
Then again, I’m always more inclined to watch a Japanese horror movies over a western one.
