  1. I also feel a bit bummed for Nolan not to have at least a nod on Director Nom. He didn’t get it for Memento (it definitely an arthouse indie movie type). Not in TDK. And now a threepeat of snubbed. Having said that, i also take a look back and notice that even great ones like Scorcese didn’t get an oscar for his best works (like…Taxi driver), only about 30 yrs later he got what he deserve decades earlier for his remake of hongkong movie (you know what). Or Spielberg who didn’t even get nominated until Schindler’s List. So i’m pretty optimistic Nolan will get his due in the future….. if somehow Oscar still relevant.

    1. Completely agree. Christopher Nolan should have been nominated for best director in place of David O. Russell. Personally, I don’t think The Fighter is as phenomenal of a movie so many people give it credit for. The main character was uninteresting and the script was very weak. The only outstanding aspects of The Fighter is Christian Bale and Melissa Leo. Amy Adams was good, but Bale and Leo made everyone look like amateurs. If the movie was primarily about Dicky, it would have been a much stronger film.

  2. I really hope The Social Network doesn’t sweep all of the awards. True, it was a great movie and it was extremely well made, but after having seen it I have no desire to watch it again. I know how Facebook was formed… I am pretty much done with it now. As for best actress, I will be pretty upset if Natalie Portman doesn’t win. Her performance in Black Swan is definitely one of the most convincing performances I have seen. She worked her butt off for the role and sold it. I am not as strongly opinionated in the other categories because most things that were nominated this year were great and there are still a couple of the films that I need to watch.

  3. IMO a much better lineup than last year.

    Here’s who I think should win and who I predict will win:

    Best Picture: should win: The Social Network will Win: The King’s Speech
    Best Director: should win/will win: David Fincher
    Best Actor: should/should win: Colin Firth
    Best Actress: should win/should win: Natalie Portman
    Best Supporting Actor: should win/will win: Christian Bale
    Best Supporting Actress: should win/will win: Melissa Leo
    Best Animated Film: should win/will win: Toy Story 3
    Best Adapted Screenplay: should win/will win: Aaron Sorkin
    Best Original Screenplay: should win: Christopher Nolan will win: David
    Seidler

    1. The Social Network was a good movie but IMO not best picture…the movie as a whole was basically laid out for them basically being a biopic. Reading the book it was based on and having even a vague idea of how facebook started leaves very little room for imagination…Social Network is overhyped…just like Avatar was last year.

      IMO (Of Who Should Win):

      Best Picture
      Inception

      Best Director
      * Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan

      Best Actor
      * James Franco, 127 Hours

      Best Actress
      * Natalie Portman, Black Swan

      Best Supporting Actor
      * Christian Bale, The Fighter

      Best Supporting Actress
      * Amy Adams, The Fighter

      Best Animated Feature
      * Toy Story 3

      Best Original Screenplay
      # Inception by Christopher Nolan

      Best Adapted Screenplay
      # True Grit by Joel & Ethan Coen

  4. Haliee Steinfeld being nominated for Best SUPPORTING Actress is absolute bullcrap and Nolan being snubbed for Best Director is a bit sad.

    Can’t complain for the rest of the list, though.

  5. I def think that Joseph Gordon Levitt, and even Leo DeCaprio got snubbed with no nominations for Inception. Also, I don’t see how the Town got snubbed for best pic. But overall, really good selections.

    1. Inception IMO was justified with a “NO” on director.
      nothing in that film suggested otherwise as far as directing(just cause a movie was “cool” doesn’t make it automatic)

  6. I am honestly sick of the Academy. I think the prestige that the award once carried is lost. It’s a political game and they’ve picked artists that they are partial to. All in all it’s a group of people making a biased decision about what they consider to be a good film and speaking for the public…

    With that said doesn’t Tom Hooper look like James Cameron…haha…I think Cameron is going under an alias so he can sneak his way in for another award.

    1. Word Up! N.P. owns these Oscars!

      Best Director should go to Aronofsky as well.

      Sorry guy’s but F#ck Nolan on this one!
      give him the screenplay though. and best adapted:Coens please!

      Javier Bardem should take it as well.(if they have balls)

  7. To Fullmetal, I agree 100% about Buried. It was a noticeable performance by someone who normally doesn’t impress. Like Walhberg did with Boogie Nights and Sandler did with Funny People and Punch Drunk Love. However, I gotta say that on a technical aspect, two films that should’ve been nominated but weren’t is truly ridiculous. Buried, a film composed of 90 minutes of a man trapped in a box, and the myriad of shots used, created, and done in this film to keep the pace at a breakneck speed is absolutely impressive and groundbreaking. Also, Gaspar Noe’s Enter The Void on the cinematography front was absolutely breath taking and also original. No notice there…it’s a shame. The Man From Nowhere should’ve been considered for best foreign language film too. Biutiful is great but its absurd that almost all films in that category haven’t even been played in most cities besides NY/LA.

  8. I have a couple of problems with the nominees this year. First of all, Nolan got snubbed again, which is ashame. Andrew Garfield should have gotten nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Also I wonder why Ryan Reynolds didn’t get any love during the awards season. His performance in Buried was very good.

  9. I can’t choose who I’d like to see win in any category! I have been disappointed in previous years but this year seems very well rounded. I still doubt that Toy Story, or any Pixar movie, will ever win Best Picture but it is great that they’re nominated!

  10. hugely disappointed for the Nolan snub for Director.. i think it’s the third time he is snubbed by the Oscars (the other two for Memento and The Dark Knight)

    1. Considering the other Director noms, I’m not disappointed in the least. Someone always gets the snub. Think of it this way: besides Nolan, there are at least four other directors whose films are up for Best Picture that did not get nominated for director. Were they robbed too?

    2. For most of us, Chris Nolan always creates excellent movies. He can take consolation that his movies are always being patronized and liked by most people, plus the fact his movies are always in everyone’s conversation . I just can’t understand how the Academy people think nowadays. The Academy guys tend to favor the art house movies that most of us don’t even watch. Screw you Academy people for not giving Chris Nolan his long overdue nod for a Best Director nomination.

      1. The Academy will always take heat for who they don’t nominate. But who is a weak link? I don’t see one. And the charge that the Academy only honors “art house” films is not only not true, but is that statement to suggest that even low budget indies that are well acted, written and directed not have any chance at all?

        And they didn’t honor Nolan for his “art house” films much, did they?
