Sad news tonight as I have to announce that Canadian Actor Leslie Nielsen has passed away after complications with pneumonia. He was 84 years old.
Veteran comedian and actor Leslie Nielsen has died in a Florida hospital, his family confirmed to Global News on Sunday evening. The Canadian actor was 84.
Nielsen rose to fame with roles in the Airplane and Naked Gun film franchises. He had apparently been suffering from pneumonia for more than a week.
The man had a full and satisfying career, and will always be remembered as the witless hero of the Naked Gun films from an era where Spoof Movies were classy and clever entertainment sources instead of the sad excuse for spoof films in more recent history. Sadly his popularity in those great spoof films extended into the current run as he played an Uncle Ben like character in Superhero Movie.
Naked Gun 4: Rhythm of Evil was in early pre-production and Nielsen was expected to reprise his role. I would have hoped it could represent the return of truly clever spoof movies.
Nielsen will be missed, and one of the greats has moved on.
And no sir, I won’t be calling you Shirley.
Rest in Peace Mr Neilsen.
“Surely you cant be serious!”
“I an serious, and dont call me Shirley”
just one of the MANY,MANY classic lines…….
gonna miss you Sir!
R.I.P.
I still get a wild laughing when he landed on the lap of the Queen of England. I will really miss his great double takes, too. Leslie will not be an easy one to double.
“a hospital..what is it!?” “…its a big building with patients, but thats not important”…
R.I.P Mr. Nielsen…
Just watched Naked Gun the other day on Cable, laughed like crazy as usual.
R.I.P. Mr. Nielson, God bless you!
very sad… i think im going to watch the naked gun in his memory
when i was a kid i remember watching “Airplane!”, and i remembered gladly, because it was the very first movie i watch in a VCR, when Betamax rule the world, he gives me laughs, and now i give him my prays. =(
Great actor–taught me the meaning of deadpan.
R.I.P
And god damn he was a funny man. I mean, he made O.J funny…
Rest in Peace Leslie!!
gonna have a naked gun marathon in memory
i will miss him very much…
what a bummer. This guy brought so many smiles to people that his legacy will live on for years to come. Show kids Airplane and the Naked Gun series.
Man, very sad. I loved his dramatic in Creepshow especially. No doubt the one name and face that will always be associated with spoof films.
I grew up on this man’s films. Between the naked gun series, Airplane!, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It… The man is responsible for most of the laughing in my early years in film watching. Such a loss… He will be missed.
Huh. I didn’t know he was Canadian.
