Hayley Atwell talks Captain America Role

Hayley Atwell is set to play the potential love interest and sassy sidekick to Captain America, and the actress herself gives us a little background on her character Peggy Carter.

io9 quotes Atwell

“I likened her character to that famous Ginger Rogers quote. She can do everything Captain America can do, but backwards and in high heels. She’s an English soldier through and through, although she always looks fabulous. She might stand there with a machine-gun shooting Nazis, but she’s obviously gone to the loo beforehand and applied a bit of lipstick. She doesn’t need to be rescued. That’s exciting to me – her strength.”

I like that her character is looking to be a sassy strong female character instead of just a damsel in distress for Cap to save.

In the comics, Peggy Carter is still alive, though much older. I wonder if Atwell will get made up to be really old as a cameo in The Avengers when Cap is thawed out in modern day.

It was Carter’s stories of Captain America that inspired her great neice to become American Dream, a busty teenage girl version of Cap.

    1. LOL! I agree can’t wait for a trailer. I want to see Cap in motion on the battlefield. That will give us a real assesment on the tone of the movie. If the tone isn’t right, or doesn’t fit what we collectively expect from a WW2 film, it could take us right out of the movie. As for Green Latern, I was really hoping it would be the Star War’s of comic book films. What we’ve seen so far of Reynold’s performance leaves a little to be desired. Rodney called it snarky, I don’t know what to call it. What ever it was it didn’t fit the Hal Jordan of the comics. Hal is in the Air Force so Reynolds should have some type of military baring which he doesn’t. So GL is probably a rental for me right along with Thor which we haven’t seen much on lately either, which isn’t a good sign.

      1. Yeah, the 20 seconds of Green vomit left much to be desired. It seems almost to me that they went for a lighthearted comedy in those clips. BUT weve all seen clips from a movie and assume it’s one thing or another and get suprised by the finished product. Thor’s trailer thats out there was waaaaay too long IMO and exposed some plot lines through the imagery (I hate that!). on first veiwing that trailer(THOR) I was scared but after re-watching it seems to have the basic’s in place. We’ll see.As for Cap. they (he) better not botch this up and hack it to death.
The fate of this movies in the Wolfman’s Director hands.(makes me a little nervous)

        Excelsior!
