Dan Aykroyd has been a strong supporter of a third Ghost Busters film for a while now, but lately he has been promoting his Crystal Head Vodka on an International RV Tour (Akroyd doesn’t fly if he doesn’t have to)
But on that tour Vanity Fair cleverly steered the talk of promoting his Vodka to promoting films asking how they are similar, then digging deep for the question they really wanted to ask.
They wanted to know how Aykroyd felt about the disparaging comments Bill Murray has made about the writing team currently trying to tempt him with a script for Ghost Busters 3.
He was talking about the writers from Year One, and I think he was reacting to the box-office success and the general public view of the film, which in my view was a very serviceable comedy, and in the end I think they’ll make their money back. I think he was concerned that the writing on Ghostbusters 3 by these guys would not be up to standard, but I can tell you firsthand, I’m working on the script now and those two—Stupnitsky and Eisenberg, [writer-producers of The Office]—wrote Bill the comic role of a lifetime, and the new Ghostbusters and the old are all well represented in it…we have a strong first draft that Harold [Ramis] and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it.
So Aykroyd is taking the script and “working on it” suggests to me that he is polishing the script. Some sources are reporting that he is re-writing the whole thing.
I just hope they focus on making a great sequel that passes the torch instead of worrying about writing this to please Bill Murray. I know it wont move forward without him, but they have to have a good product not just good for Bill.
I have faith that in the end Murray will let down his guard and have some fun with it so we can get this long awaited sequel.
The way its written, if the sequel works it will spawn a new generation of Ghost Busters, and that I would like to see.
I always loved the idea of the four guys from Forty Year Old Virgin of being the next Ghostbusters….
Yeah, The black guy that also did weeds would be perfect for this,
Paul Rudd?
Maybee.
Hopefully , a good scrpit that passes the torch to gb 2.0 with an entertaing story worthy of the “gostbusters” name makes bill happy anyway .
Female Ghostbuster….Kristen Wiig…although, she’s so good at comedy she MIGHT steal whatever scene she’s in.
Wiig is the same in 90% of what she does.
I dont care for her much but I did like her in Whip It.
“…if the sequel works it will spawn a new generation of Ghost Busters…”
I don’t like the sound of that…
Ghostbusters X! Starring…Shia LaBeouf! Michael Cera! Jonah Hill! And Zooey Deschanel! (because this new, edgy generation of Ghostbusters has a girl!)
I think I just threw up a little.
Not to induce more vomit, but they have considered having one of the new Busters be a girl.
But your assumption that it will just star the most inappropriate stars just for name power is not justified.
Likely they will pick some unknowns or lesser knowns to pass the torch to. Also, word has it that the next generation will not be “kids” but rather in their 30s like they were when they started the game.
HA! Figures. Well I absolutely abhor the idea of a new generation of Ghostbusters, but if I had to choose a group (based on the studio insisting on two white guys, a black guy, and a girl), I would cast:
Will Smith
Danny McBride
Charlie Day
Samantha Bee? (I have no idea who to cast here…are there any funny actresses out there?)
Well…that looks terrible. That was the best I could come up with, I wouldn’t even go see my own movie. There’s really just not very many funny, young actors.
So Bill Murray will do two Garfield movies, but will not do GB 3. Year One was bad, but I wonder if he has even taken a look at the new GB script. I really don’t think Murray will do this. Unfortunately, they may have to do it without him or scrap the movie.
Unfortunately if it doesn’t get done with him it wont happen. Part of their original contract was that in order to do a sequel all of them have to approve.
would only be too happy to see this happen- fingers crossed ghosters 3 soon!
