Confirmed – New Orleans To Become Gotham City

It was rumored that New Orleans could pass off as Gotham City for Christopher Nolan’s follow-up sequel to The Dark Knight. Apparently, it’s been confirmed.

CinemaBlend reports:

We reported back in August that Warner Bros. was considering shifting the majority of principal photograph on Batman 3 to New Orleans, abandoning Chicago after filming the majority of the first two films there. Now Superhero Hype has confirmed the rumor, adding that shooting is set to begin down South starting in April.

Like I said before, I have no problem with this. As long as Nolan keeps the vibe Chicago so wonderfully gave us as Gotham, it’ll be fine. This is great news for New Orleans.

What do you guys think? New Orleans as Gotham? Do you think we’ll notice the differences big time?

  1. We think it’s great. The more the merrier. New Orleans is hot for film production right now, and rightly so. Great locations, lots of film studios, good people (and major incentives, of course). Also, yaayyyyy Batman!

  2. Aslong as Jude Law is gunna be The Riddler, I don’t care where its being filmed…Its still gunna look like Gotham City with technolgy these days.

  3. I would like them to stylish Gotham a bit more in the Batman Begins style, Dark Knight looked a bit stark.
By the way I love that picture of Batman staring at the window frame.

  4. Just a few minutes ago, I commented on your newer post regarding what seems to be a “automatic” reaction, not just on Millar’s part, but some fans as well. They say, ‘oh, it’s The Croc’. I do too— a croc of shit.

I didn’t read this post first.

  5. I don’t think it’s a good idea, after seeing those sprawling IMAX sized cityscapes I don’t think New Orleans has that vibe to it. Nolan opened up Gotham and the world around the fictional city like know one else. All previous Bat films including Batman Begins seem cramped in comparison. Some of Batman Begins and a good portion of the previous films were filmed on Studio lots and it shows. It’s almost like Nolan is going back toward the Batman Begins feel for the movie. I think he should stay in Chicago because people have become very familiar with that city and the look of the films in regards to them being filmed there.

  6. Kinda wondering if N.O. isn’t going to be Gotham at all…(moving most of photography there) Possibly Metropolis? The original home town of The Dark Knight. I’m imagining a lot of Chicago and some N.O. to mix things up a bit. I back what ever Chris Nolan does, he directs nothing but gold.

  7. Its interesting to me, I wonder if it does have anything to do with the story. Wayne Manor could be some sprawling Louisiana Plantation. I found it interesting that there was no mention at all of Wayne Manor in The Dark Knight. I wonder if they hold to the whole “brick for brick” line concerning the look of it, or if we get something comletely different.

  8. I have mix feelings about this, sure it’s GREAT for N.O, I mean the State of LA has just been hit hard: 1st Katrina then the oil spill. So for the Economy in the area will benefit form this. Lost of Movies are now being shot down there for that sole purpose.
But’s lets not kid our self…I’ve lived in both Cities, they are completely different from each other…I can’t even imagine how they will do this. The Harbor alone will give it away, and once you pay close attention the buildings infrastructures are completely different…
Oh well, if anybody can do it, it’s Chris Nolan….

  9. I’m assuming that the location change pertains to something happening in the story. Maybe the criminals regain Gotham, and it goes under. It becomes a swamp like city basically.

    1. You do know that New Orleans is not a swamp right?

That flood happened years ago, and its dried up a fair bit since.

You think they are still knee deep in water down in the Big Easy? lol

      1. Been to New Orleans. Performed on the Riverwalk and French Quarter.

At no point did I confuse the urban cityscape with that of a swamp.

Outside the city might feel like a swamp, but there were no wet streets or soggy areas of the city to be seen at all.

You do know what a swamp is right?

    2. It has crap to do with the look. It has everything to do with New Orleans offering a 40% tax rebate on all films that film there and use a certain percentage of local talent and crew. New Orleans has become the new place to film your film, and with as big a budget as I suspect this film to have, the producers will be very happy to have nearly half the budget refunded to them by the government.
