Transformers 3 Update: End of Story?

Quick update on Transformers 3. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is currently promoting his latest film, Salt. As expected, he was asked about other movies he is involved with, including Transformers 3.

IGN reports:

We asked him if it’s the end of the line for the giant robots. His response? As far as he’s concerned, part three will be the final installment.

“I would think so,” he said. “I would think so.”

That doesn’t mean a reboot with new creative talent might not happen, but it would appear that the current regime feels that their work is done.

“It may not be the end of the line of Transformers for Hasbro and Paramount,” he laughed. “But I would think so… [Director] Michael [Bay] I’m sure is… He’s spent a lot if years working on one thing.”

For Transformers fanboys everywhere, this is sad news. To me, it’s expected. I mean, in this era, studios are used to the idea of making trilogies. I also expect that in the future, the Transformer franchise will be rebooted/remade once again. It will be sad to see the end to Bay’s vision and story. It’s been awesome! (gotta thank today’s available technology and effects wizards). Here’s hoping that they go out with a bang. I was a little disappointed with number 2.

What do you guys think of this news?

  1. i would just like to say that the best thing to come from the 2nd movie was the fight scene between Optimus, Megatron, Blackout and Starscream :D

  2. i know its really late and im just comming into this conversation. But i would really like to state that everyone can have their own ideas and opinions on how this movie could’ve or would’ve been different if there was a different director. But look at it this way, with a different director there wouldve been a different story, different story there would’ve been a different cast, different cast, you’d have a completly different movie. And whos to say that anyone else couldve really done any better?

You should give Bay credit for doing this movie, not blame him for apparently ruining transformers. He did something no one else did, he brought back a few childhood memories for a few people im sure, and i bet they thank him for that. He showed us all something that we’ve wanted to see for a while. I say he did a great job on the films. yes the 2nd was no where near as good as the 1st ill admit but, what he was able to do, i bet is alot better than anyone else out there could’ve done.

I say instead of giving Bay shit for the films he’s done just be happy that someone had the courage to do it. even if you do not agree with the choice, you cant say that you didnt sit there in the theatre and wasnt blown away by how bad ass jazz, ironhide, sideswipe and of course, Optimus are.

  3. Wow I really really really hit a nerve about my comments about the site…..look heres the bottom line: Im a 32 year old man extremely pissed about the Transformers movies and I have a problem going into a movie theater and watching utter garbage. As you can tell (HAHAHA) I despise what Michael Bay has done the last 3 years with the franchise and I am soooo happy hes on his way out.

I am man enuff to admit maybe I was wrong for attacking Francisco the way I did and talking bad about the site because I do come here almost everyday and I do enjoy the coverage. As im typing this im laughing to myself because its really all about Michael Bay!!!! For the last time and then we can move on: I FUCKING HATE WHAT HE AS DONE WITH THE TRANSFORMERS AND HES A FUCKING HACK AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED whew I feel better now.

Its my opinion and I can respect you guys for your opinion its just when I saw Francisco statement about Bay’s vision and story being awesome it was the last straw for me and I found myself typing and venting. So we will agree to disagree but in this case im the official home of correct movie opinions :)

    Blame it on Bay

    Cheers guys

    1. Not hitting a nerve, but if you want to make assumptions about the quality of the site, I am going to call you on it.

Just like your hate for Michael Bay and your blanket statements of opinion that you are trying to pass off as indisputable fact.

I think Transformers is awesome, and I think Bay is awesome. He doesn’t make high art, and he is never going to win an Oscar, but I love his movies for the pure wow and entertainment. Yeah, they are not perfect, but they are fun, Transformers included.

Opinions are never correct. That’s just the nature of opinion. I will never begrudge you your opinion, so don’t presume to dictate mine or anyone else’s.

      1. Your site: The Home of Correct Movie Opinions does it not say that???? I extend an olive branch saying maybe I was a bit harsh and you pretty much smack it away. OK i see how it is

  4. Hey Rodney I have nooo problem with Francisco’s opinion of Michael Bay and his Transformers movies I just dont agree with them at all and I think his argument and defense of Bay is just weak thats my point. I feel its impossible to defend Bay here and I think anyone with half a brain and who is over 25(age is important here) and loves the Transformers franchise would agree with me.

I also think the reason why Bay’s so called SUMMER blockbusters do soo well and “SUMMER” is the important factor here is because his movies are catered towards the 15 to 24 demographic. Think about it; 1.They are all off from school, 2.All of his movies are full of models and explosions and MTV music video style visuals which teenagers fucking eat it up.

Now dont get me wrong I love beautiful women and amazing CGI and slow motion Megan Fox with her tits bouncing up and down but it doesnt make up for the fact that Michael Bay has nooo business making movies based on the Transformers and the proof is in the 2 movies he as made.

Maybe Megan Fox isnt as stupid as she looks, maybe she had enuff, soooo what does Bay do???? He hires a Victoria Secret model with zero acting experience to take her place HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I think he just made my point for me. Someone please tell me im not crazy here!!!!

    Cheers guys

    1. Thanks Rod, I was going to post that soon…

Brad, you are entitled to your opinion regarding Transformers and Bay…and I’m entitled to my opinion regarding Transformers and Bay…and yes we can have a discussion, exchange arguments about it etc etc

BUT what’s out of place, is you stating this:

(“The fact that it doesnt matter to most people including YOU Francisco who writes for a Movie Fan website (and one that as truly fallen since John moved on)is sad and just wrong.”)

That has nothing to do with my opinion regarding Transformers and Bay! You can’t use my opinion on a topic and bash the TMB. That has nothing to do with the topic. How can you say a website has truly fallen, when we’re talking about my opinion on a particular movie/movies?

      1. And if its “fallen” so much…. why are you here again?

John and I ran this site together for 6 years (obviously he was the boss) but when he Like your over assumption about how your OPINION means more than Fransico’s, you don’t have convincing arguments to back it up.

I love my site, and I love my readership coming here every day to geek out about movies with me and my team. The fact that we run a site has nothing to do with our right to an opinion, nor does it alter it in any way. We are just like everyone else, talking about movies and what we love about them.

And for the record, I am 37 years old, and grew up on Transformers with a great amount of love and affection for the franchise. And I like the Transformers movies. They are far from perfect, but I like them.

  5. That’s not what I heard. The date for Transformers 3 is already set for July 1st or next year. The third movie is going to end it. And after the 2nds disappointment I don’t even know if I’m really looking forward to it.

  6. Wait did he say its sad that it will be the end of Bay’s vision and story???? Its been awesome???? Is this guy serious???? WOW I havent visited this site in a long time but I really wonder what John would think about a statement like that……HAHAHAHAHAHAHA sad it will be the end of Bay’s vision and story HAHAHAHAHAHA

    1. Brad, I was referring that the franchise in deed HAS been awesome. Getting to see Transformers come to live has been cool.

What happens when a franchise is about to end it’s trilogy arc/story? Yessss Brad, it goes dead or into standby mode for some years…in some cases, decades, until it’s brought back to the screen once again. That’s what I meant. So when this ends, we don’t know for sure when Transformers 4 or a reboot will ever come to fruition.

Yes Brad, watching some 80s cartoon robots/comics come to live with today’s technology HAS been awesome.
Watching huge robots interact with humans in modern times HAS been awesome! Regardless of the story, which movie was better or sucked more…it’s been awesome!

If you don’t get my point, one more time, it’s basically this…there was no live action Transformers movie in the 90’s right? That’s right. got it? So for us to get to see these effects on screen has been awesome.
Regardless of Megan Fox, the story arc, the twins, the villains…blah blah blah.

What if we don’t get another Transformer movie until the 2020’s eh? That’s what I meant.

You gotta give Bay credit for having the balls no one else has and taking this vision of Transformers to the screen during our lifetime. Thats what I meant….

      Regardless Brad, cheers!

      1. Well Francisco….I was referring to the fact that you said that Bay’s vision and story was awesome. Look at it this way: Seeing dinosaurs come to life in Jurassic Park back in the early 90’s was just as cool if not abillion times cooler because of the way it was handled.I know you can use the excuse that those movies were based on a book but see thats my point. Those movies had an amazing story to go by and an amazing director at the helm who respected the material and knew what to do with it.

Bay isnt either a great story teller or a great director PERIOD!!!! Hes a music video director as far as im concerned and nothing more.

Also Franciscoooo I know that a franchise goes dead and into standby for a number of years after a while and in this case thats just what needs to happen to the Transformers so we can all forget what Bay has done here. You know it and I know it.

Yes Francisco, watching 80s cartoon robots come to life with today’s technology has been in my opinion a wasted opportunity because Bay has been the one to bring it to us.
Watching huge robots interact with humans in modern times HAS been boring and pathetic because Bay had made lame pee and fart and fucking POT jokes. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS???? With the Transformers it should be mostly about the story and then work your special effects around that. The fact that it doesnt matter to most people including YOU Francisco who writes for a Movie Fan website (and one that as truly fallen since John moved on)is sad and just wrong.

Ok since your saying that there was no live action Transformers up intill now its ok to have a shitty female lead in Megan Fox,a lame story, ebonics talking twins and zero connection to the 80’s cartoon other then Peter Cullen and the names of the robots.

The Bottom line is Franciscoo…..Your ok with what Bay as come up with just because there hasnt been live action Transformer movies up intill now and thats just wrong.

I give Bay all the credit in the world for having NO BALLS and PISSING all over the Transformers franchise. He has no vision of what the Transformers are really all about. Its more then BIG BAD ASS ROBOTS SMASHING AND KICKING METAL ASS ALL OVER THE SCREEN as he would put it. Thank god its the last movie he will make in the franchise and I pray it lays dormant for at least 5 to 7 years so we can all forget about these dog shit movies and hope our beloved robots in disguise will be handled the right way, a way they truly deserve….

        Cheers Francisco

      2. Brad, you are entitled to your opinion but so is Francisco. If he likes the movies and thinks they are awesome? That’s his choice.

And while you are busy smashing the hell out of Michael Bay, remember that he is responsible for many high grossing summer blockbusters. Boxoffice doesn’t mean that he is making great films, but it does mean that he is putting out entertaining product with broad appeal.

      3. hey mr.francisco , i think we should let brad direct the Transformers 4 and lets just watch whose movie sucks … the bays’ film or from d’wannabee director brads’ film …

  7. First film was bad, the second was atrocious. I was really, genuinely let down by the first film and the second shat all over what could have been a stunning franchise.

Bay really is a direct by number hack with no talent of interest in true film art. I can’t stand him or his work. Bring on the reboot now.

    1. Right on, brother! It’s about time someone injected truth into this thread.

      Terrible franchise. Terrible director.

Besides sweet visuals (yes, that includes Megan Fox), I challenge anyone to explain why those films are good.

    2. Hi
I’m from Chile, i speak in Spanish, so I hope you can understand what I’m saying.

      This franchise is GUACK!!!
I can do betters thing with my time, like: sleep, eat, watch another movie.

    3. I completely agree with Jamms. Bring on the 3rd movie. The sooner we get it over with the sooner someone else can reboot the franchise and do it right. The 2nd movie was one of the worst movies of the last decade.

  8. I think that this has been one of those successful franchises that will keep on going no matter what movie studio is doing it. May take a break here and there but I don’t think we have seen the last of the transformers franchise. I also agree with EZELL who said it would take maybe ten years and then we would see another film just like the terminator, die hard and rambo franchises.

  9. I dont think they need to stop or even take a break. If they keep making these movies, I will keep seeing them. Bay can be replaced. So can Labouf. Maybe Labouf can cameo and pass the torch to another human.

  10. I would think it would be similar to Terminator, Die Hard, and Rambo and we will see a fourth film in another decade.

I hope this means another Bad Boys sooner.

  11. Transformers 2 was a bit of a disappointment, but overal the franchize is pretty cool. Hope the third and final installment will bring it all home! And with no more twins, it is sooooo much better already!!!

    1. Nothing he said seems to put a nail in the coffin for the Transformers movies. It sounds like those involved on the projects are ready to move on. It sounds like they will stop but others can take up the challenge. Paramount won’t let this be the end.

Unless they kill ALL the transformers there no reason to call this the end. Hell even if they kill them all they can always bring them back. Didn’t Megatron die, didn’t Optimus die?
