Star Wars Babies Coming to TV?

Posted by on 18. 03. 2010in News Chat

Looks like Papa Smurf is at it again, and is starting to develope a Muppet Babies take on Star Wars. George Lucas is gearing up to transport the iconic characters of the franchise into baby versions of themselves all interacting in a day care… or something.

io9.com says:

George Lucas beginning pre-production on another animated SW series. But this time it’s for pre-scoolers and Kindergarteners. Rumor has it, the toy line Star Wars: Galactic Heroes is what they are basing the premise around. And the working title is “Squishies.”

George, I love ya more than any grown man should. You have created a universe that has impacted me on so many levels but seriously.

Stop.

Stop trying to milk that cow. You have more money than the Vatican, you can do ANYTHING you want. But stop.

Maybe we are over reacting and this toon will be super fun like the Muppet Babies were for us back in the day. (Shut up, I know you watched it)

And frankly those Galactic Heroes toys are made of awesome. I have the stubby Falcon and a littering of big eyed squat figures on my desk as we speak.

    StarWars Super Hero Squad?

    WOW!

Now my kid will want to buy these things (Bastards!)

and here I thought I could stay away from StarWars toys till he’s at least 8-10 years old..

George Lucas products are never on sale!

This is more like Marvel Super Hero Squad for a under 10 demographic that perhaps is not old enough for Clone Wars which is bit violent for 7yr olds. Clone Wars appears in prime time, I could see this as a Saturday morning show.

  3. I never quite understood why characters have to become like toddlers in order for the younger set to enjoy them. It can’t be ALL about selling new toys…

    (((oh yes it can)))

    However, I’m….

going to have to disagree with you Rodney. I think this is an okay thing. Not to up on the Squishies label (Hey, if you are going to make a cartoon based on a toy, name it after the toy. Make sense, right?) BUT if we got a batch of new characters interacting with the Ewoks and Jawas, okay. Just as long as Lucas doesn’t turn Darth Vader into Dwarf Fader, we should be okay.

I’m still hoping for that *other* Star Wars series. *sigh*

Well, it’s his IP and his creation. He can do with it whatever he so decides. We as the audience/consumer can like it or leave it. We aren’t FORCED to do anything, so stop bitching.

All of us under 40 yrs old have a micro-chip installed in us by Lucas to pretty much buy/rent/watch/& ingest anything and everything StarWars…well bitch about it till’ the cows come home….and then we’ll buy it anyways. it’s what we do.

May the force be with you

They go in through the roof of your mouth to install the micro-chip. I had mine removed after EP3 came out. The whole franchise is just about dead to me except for uber coolness of the Star Wars Legos.

I will be surprised if the live action series happens. As I recall, back in ’05 they were projecting it for a ’10 (’11?) debut.

is this an early april fools joke??? wtf

If I am forced to have kiddie cartoons on at my house nonstop, I prefer things that might actually entertain me.

Though I fear Jar Jar baby might be included…

Legos is pretty awesome! thats what I show my little one, just caught some of EP3 on spike or something and just realized how much worse it is than I wanted to remember (SW denial) I caught the part where Yoda and Chewie are in the midst of the battle scene and they went back and forth to Anakin and Portman. it seemed that every shot was done on a pivitol camera(swooping from one end to the other IN EVERY SCENE! Jeeeeesh! and the Acting……oh the acting..

I just blew a circut and felt like Neo from the Matrix when he got unplugged! DOWNER!

    @ Darren,

Not sure, but I’m betting the Squishies title is just a working title. Most of his stuff is done that way.
