Morrison and Waititi join Green Lantern

Looks like Green Lantern is getting some Australian supporting cast as Temuera Morrison as Abin Sur, and Taika Waititi as Hal’s Pal.

Cinematical says:

Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi have joined the cast in minor roles.

Morrison, probably best known to American audiences as Jango “Father of Boba” Fett, will be playing Abin Sur. Abin Sur is a member of the Lantern Corps, and crashlands on Earth.

Taika Watiti will be playing “Hal’s Friend” which is likely his sidekick buddy Tom, who is the only other person to know his Green Lantern secret. I would wager they would drop the racially insensitive “Pieface” nickname he had in the comics.

Will be cool to see that Jango Fett inspired another generation by passing the torch though.

I am pretty stoked about the Morrison casting, I ythink he will make a great Abin Sur. He does have a quiet dignity about him which should play into the Abin Sur character.

How do you mean “Passing the torch” w/ Jengo?

    • Rodney says:

He passed the torch to little Boba… of course!

Not to mention passing his genetic code on to thousands and thousands of clones to serve the Republic.

    oohhh I see, DOH!

Still woulda liked a reference to Han in those Prequels

    thanks

    • Rodney says:

We did get to see the Millennium Falcon!

And Han was just a wee lad at the time. He didnt really become famous or even known at all until he left the military to go freelance as a smuggler.

I suspect we might cross paths with Solo in the proposed TV series.

      • Kaneda979 says:

I would so love to see Han Solo pop up in the new TV series.

And hopefully it’ll be more then just a character cameo, provided they can come up with a good story and reason for having him in there.

    That is cool news.

Morrison’s time on screen will probably be small, but Abin Sur in the Green Lantern universe is far from a ‘minor role’ — It’s the dying Sur who passed his Ring on to Hal Jordan, thereby inducting him into the Green Lantern Corps.

And he’s often referenced in the comics — his influence and legacy extends pretty far. He also has some interesting ties to Sinestro — though I doubt in the movie they will touch upon that.

“Pieface”? REALLY?! Wow, the Gold Age of comic books was something else.

  6. Snail says:

    Tem morrison is from NZ

    • Matty says:

Exactly. Its a fairly big mistake, particularly in regards to Morrison. That bloke is more New Zealander than a Kiwi bird eating pineapple lumps while listening to Dave Dobbyn and climbing Mount Doom.

Jake the Muss FTW! (and thats coming from an Aussie)

  7. James says:

You know those actors are both from New Zealand, not Australia right?

  8. JDH says:

    New Zealand!

  9. joedy says:

Yeah as annoying as New Zealanders are (OZ FTW)
They are New Zealanders, and to everyone in the southern hemisphere, Morrison is more known for playing Jake the muss in “Once were Warriors”

  10. 420Band says:

And the poster on the wall reads: NEW ZEALAND………..WHY NOT?
