Hugo Weaving in talks for Red Skull for Captain America

They still haven’t picked a Captain America, and I worry that they just might pick that guy from the Office, but it looks like they might be close to getting their Red Skull.

Hugo Weaving is in talks for the role, so its not final but I hope it does go this way!

THR Heatvision says:

Marvel Studios has zeroed in on Hugo Weaving to play the villainous Red Skull in “Captain America.”

Joe Johnston is directing the movie, which remains in search of the actor to play Steve Rogers, Captain America’s alter ego.

In the Marvel comics, Red Skull has been Captain America’s archenemy since 1941, when he engaged in espionage and sabotage as Hitler’s right-hand man.

I really like the idea of Hugo has Red Skull. Clearly looks have little to do with it as he will likely spend the majority of the movie with a red scarred face. But he has an ominous voice that carries a lot of power and creepy charm to it.

I wonder if Christoph Waltz would have been a better pick, but considering he has already played a maniacal Nazi, I don’t know that I want to confuse the two.

I’m actually hoping John K. gets the part.

  2. Roman says:

This is the perfect casting for me. I really hope they go back after Pine for the role of Cap. This movie holds a spot in my heart because Captain America was my favorite hero growing up and I NEED this to be good.

  3. Castle91 says:

Not a bad casting at all. I just hope he doesn’t end up being the fallback performance the way he was in another certain Joe Johnston film…

  4. 420BAND says:

I NEED it as well (to be good) this news is a step in the right direction (Waltz is a good choice as well/but seems a little short for the role)

  5. Geno says:

I can see Waltz in part of the role, but then he would end up being type cast as the crazy nazi/ german type. I would like to see if they choose Weaving what he can bring to the role of Red Skull.

  6. Kaneda979 says:

Oh hell ya, I love the idea. Ever since the Matrix I’ve wanted to see him in major villain role again and one he can take the distance with. Which this would be just perfect, I really hope this happens. The man definitely has the makings for a super villain.

Now I’m just trying to hear his voice in my head with an evil German accent. ;)

  7. I would actually have liked Til Schweiger, but if they get Hugo Weaving for Red Skull, you won’t hear any complaints from me.

thought i read on slash that “Jim” was officially off the short list, no?

    • Matty says:

If “Jim” gets to be Captain America then Red Skull should be played by Rainn Wilson.

“Thats it, Captain America; you have left your papers on my side of the desk for the last time!”

  9. Jim says:

    John K is out.

i think hugo was excellent acting behind a mask as V in V for Vendetta
He would be an excellent choice for Red Skull

  11. 420Band says:

It seemed like anyone could have been behind that mask for V and dubbed Hugo’s voice over it, for all we know it could have been Doug Jones!

Well we know it wasn’t, just sayin’.

Like Hugo, but V for Van. was an acquired taste….Like stale doritos

  12. Lawrence says:

Finally, a comic book villain role for Hugo Weaving.
Fanboys want him for Sinestro. But that role went to Mark Strong.
I’m sure Weaving will be turning in a tour de force role as the Red Skull.

  13. Pr says:

Hugo Weaving would be great. Personally however, I’d love to see Christoph Waltz as Red Skull.
