Hill replaces Martin in Moneyball

Bennet Miller’s Moneyball was starting to shape up into a light comedy revolving around the Oakland A’s ball club and stats man Paul DePodesta with Demitri Martin and Brad Pitt to star.

Until Demitri dropped out and they picked Jonah Hill to replace him. What?

JoBlo shares:

Demetri Martin has dropped out of director Bennett Miller’s MONEYBALL. Replacing the beanpole comedian will be rotund funny guy Jonah Hill.

Hill would be stepping into the role of Paul DePodesta – an assistant to Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane (to be played by Brad Pitt) who together implemented the analytical principles of “sabermetrics” that helped the A’s build a competitive team on the cheap.

Maybe its just my constant distaste for Jonah Hill (who has annoyed me in everything after Superbad) or maybe its that they are replacing Dimitri Martin (who although funny isn’t an actor) who looked more like DePodesta.

DePodesta was a numbers man and used statistics to create a ball team with viable odds of survival without breaking the bank. I can’t see Hill in any intellectual roles at all.

Ever.

Demetri Martin not an actor? Have you seen Taking Woodstock? He is a brilliant actor, and this movie just dropped several notches down with this loss.

  3. 420BAND says:

I thought he was pretty forgettable on Flight of the Choncords
and never seen Taking Woodstock, but will eventually

demetri martin is clever, but not so great when it comes to acting

Man, I know this might sound stupid, but I think Jonah Hill doing a movie with Brad Pitt is insulting to Pitt’s career. Gracious man, what the crap, even Jonah’s little appearance in Night at the Museum 2 made me not give a shit about a sequel that I already didn’t give a shit about. Please fire this kid. Please.

I can’t say Martin is a good actor, but I will take his “lawyer seriousness” over Jonah fucking HIll anyday.

Why the hell are they making this book a movie? The main character in the book, which was brilliant, was NOT Billy Beane or Paul DePodesta. The main “character” was freaking MATH!

I understood how they would turn one of Michael Lewis’s other books, Blindside, into a compelling narrative. I don’t see how they can do it with Moneyball.

It is interesting as hell to read, but there isn’t any real drama.
