Will Saw 7 be the Last?

Posted by on 09. 02. 2010in News Chat

Screenwriter of Saw is talking that they are seriously considering writing the seventh chapter as its last, tying together the loose ends and ending the series for good.

/Film says

Screenwriter Patrick Melton, who co-wrote the last three Saw films and the upcoming seventh movie, claims the the series will probably end with the seventh installment, and they have even planned to wrap up the lingering questions.

As noble and artistic as they want to be with Saw ending, I honestly don’t see the studio letting that happen.

These movies rake in serious cash on a regular basis and there is no reason for them to stop now. The die hards will keep watching it and keep putting food on the fat cat’s plate.

I thought the first one was great, but lost interest after 2.

They want to tie it all up, but it wont be over. If there is money to be made with the franchise it will never be over.

  1. AARON says:

6 wrapped everything up pretty well IMO. It was actually good, so they should quit while their ahead, since the others were ehh.

  2. Angie says:

Please…let it be done with!!! The first was good and twisted, but just like Shamhammer… too much twists can com back to you. I haven’t seen 6… like Rodney.. it lost its spark and uniqueness and I just stopped watching. I know studios want the money, but sequels just usually shouldn’t be made. I can accept them when there is an actual story arc and probably some might argue the Saw movies have them, but to me its like “Hey we made some money, lets write another one!”

    • AARON says:

See 6 because it reveals everything. Well, most everything. Basically just why the game continued..can’t say too much here.

But that’s why they don’t need another one

  3. cloud720 says:

Haven’t these movies been making less and less money? If the trend continues and they made an 8th or a 9th movie, they may start to lose money.

  4. kingl says:

Hopefully, it’s the last one. Unless the studio decides a reboot…

  5. David Lopan says:

Saw 3 should’ve been the last one. You know…when jigsaw died and all central characters had conclusions? Yeah…should’ve been then.

  6. Matt Keith says:

I agree with Rodney, as long as this film make money, then it won’t be the last.

  7. Ifaz says:

These people continued the story of 3 of the sequels in such ridiculous manner that I have nothing to say.

And I don’t believe the guy, we’ll eventually see Saw 53 in about 5 years and probably in 3-D.

  8. 420BAND says:

    Thank god!

  9. 420BAND says:

Went to see the original on Halloween at a midnight screening and caught the “suprise twist” coming in the first half hour. LAME.

and to think they made a shitload on the franchise.

not hating, just not my cup of java. Y’know?

  10. Darek-T says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if they end it because the 6th one was a huge step down as far as money making goes. It made less then half of what 5 did. So it’s obviusly dieing off.

  11. SlashBeast says:

As long as people keep paying to see them, they’ll continue making them.

  12. Bumbledoor says:

“From now on, just take one dip and end it!”

But seriously, I LOVE the franchise and at the same time think they should start thinking about ending. Or at the very least end the whole thing about Jigsaw and his apprentices, because there’s only so much that you can do with the characters especially considering they’re hardly introducing new ones and the originals are dwindling away.

If they made a whole new series with new characters and stuff, and it went straight to DVD or something, maybe about a totally different killer and circumstances or a copycat in the future, I’d be on board for the long haul all the way to SAW LXVIII. But they really need to end the story that revolves around Jigsaw, it’s getting stretched too thin.

  13. Shupe says:

If they end it , another form of the same concept will surfase.

  14. Rule Of Thumb:

There was once a day in which Friday The 13th had a Final Chapter.

There was once a day when Freddy Was Dead.

No matter how bad a film series gets, when someone says “we are done-the end!” Don’t believe them for a minute. At the very least Tobin Bell won’t return. In fact, not one of the current Saw cast save for a Betsy Russell cameo will be needed.

All you need is a new “Jigsaw” to take up the mantle. Isn’t that what the series have been about, anyway? If the next picture makes more than a nickel over its break even budget, I expect maybe at least two years off, then BAM there it is. You Saw 8.

  15. fullmetal_medji says:

Didn’t they say there were going to be only seven saw movies anyway?

  16. Jason says:

After I watched the first Saw I never cared to watch any of the others.

  17. Jigsaw's Ghost says:

Close it off at 7, answer what happened to Dr. Gordon (once and for all) and kill off Hoffman. I believe those are the only questions left unanswered. If you can convince Carey Elwes to make an appearance, great. I can’t imagine he’d turn down a bit of coin, even given his past disappointment, with the work he’s been doing lately. If not, just show the body 20 feet from the original door and be done with it.

    Game Over.

  18. obi-wan kubrick says:

Didn’t they announce part 7 would be that last after Saw 2?

  19. Corey Schmitz says:

Im sorry but i disagree with the majority of you all and just have to say that saw is amazing. Never have i been so excited for Halloween since this franchise, and i loved every film so far (well, except saw 5). it has creativity, gore, and a extremely well-written script and acting that makes me always come back for more. its ambiguous endings and incessant storyline are simply fantastic, and i would simply like to thank them for it. Regarding the end, if possible, continue to saw 8 please! If the end is inevitably now, then atleast go out with a twist that no one will forget, and also make it longer than the regular 90 minutes.

  20. Rohan says:

saw is the best movie ihve ever seen!i wish they don`t end the series. this movie should go for oscars.

  21. meee says:

It cant end after six what happens to doctor gordon in the first one you never find out so its obviously gonna be something involving him!!

  22. SteelerFan1164 says:

Saw was, is, and will always be my favorite horror franchise. True, 6 didn’t make alot, but that doesn’t mean that they plan to shut down after just one bad movie. I find it amazing that they were able to continue after Jigsaw died in Saw III. The twists and turns of the movies are able to keep people interested. True, they’ve made alot of movies, but, think about it. Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elmestreet went on for like 14 movies each! Plus, with all the questions unanswered, they can’t stop now! Most horror movies with killers are just killing for the sake of killing. At least Saw has some reasoning behind it! I don’t care if there’s a Saw XL, if there are twists and turns, I’ll support it.

  23. Isaac Araujo says:

I cant believe that each new movie is better than the previous. Nevertheless if the director don´t put a endpoint at the saga of SAW finally their fans will loses the interest

    • Rodney says:

So you say that every film is better than the one before it, but think that if they don’t end the series the fans will lose interest?

I would think that if every one of them is better (which I don’t think is true) the fans would want more and more. Ending the series will leave the fans with nothing else to follow.

Your statement seems to contradict itself.

  24. Vahid says:

I have just re watched all the 6 SAWs just for binding the clues together, I am somehow shocked to see the ending chapter was so irrelevant somehow thus there were some serious matters that remained unanswered or not covered:
1: What was the story of those freaky dolls? (this was questioned in SAW 4 by Agent Strahm from Jigsaw’s wife)
2: In SAW 6 Jigsaw told his wife: “I promise you, when all this is done I will provide a way out for you.” being torn up with a reverse bear trap mechanism shouldn’t have been a “PROVIDING A WAY OUT FOR SOMEONE”.
3: In SAW 5 when Hoffman is attaching the picture of the GAMERS to the wall there is a woman which hasn’t been shown in any series.
4: In SAW 7 when the reporter reports about the survivors of the last episode it mentions 7 survivors, I counted: 2 from merry go round, 1 the old secretary, 2 Mr. Abbot’s wife and son, 1 Pamela Jenkins the reporter, this is 6 not 7, who was the 7th one?
5: In SAW 7 when Dr. Gordon plays the movie of Jigsaw, Jigsaw says: “Watch over Jill, and should anything happen to her, I want you to act on my behalf. in return for that, I WILL KEEP NO MORE SECRETS FROM YOU.”
what are those NO MORE SECRETS?
In my opinion considering the writers and producers of SAW series professional (as they have proved it in previous series), with these questions unanswered they acted either naive or wanted to expand the series more.
If there is anything else that remains unanswered please let me know about that too.

  25. Richard Romero says:

I mean I am a Saw fan, and I do enjoy the series. Don’t get me wrong there was some parts that I was pretty bored but all in all it was a pretty good series. I have to say though, they need to stop, because it is getting too much and i say after seven films, you are getting into the freddy kruegar and jason series. The series had a good plot, but it needs to end though.

  26. Logan says:

Why was the wife of the liar in Saw 7 punished? She obviously didnt know anything about him lying to fame. I don’t get it. Aren’t the guilty only put to the test to redeem themselves?

I love the series. I wish it doesn’t stop. And I’m not crazy.
