Shinjuku Incident gets Limited US Release

Want to see Jackie Chan in another family friendly slapstick martial arts comedy film? Of course you do. But I bet you wouldn’t mind seeing him in something far more serious and gritty violent too right?
Well that something is called Shinjuku Incident, and while Chinese censors have soft stomachs, the film is coming to American soil for a limited release.
Shinjuku Incident was deemed “too violent” to pass censor in China and was subsequently banned from mainland distribution when Yee refused to edit it down. Thankfully, upstart distributor Barking Cow Distribution is releasing it stateside in limited release this Friday, February 5 (with an R rating), which means American Chan devotees can get a chance to see it on the big screen.
I suspect we will get a DVD release not long after this short run in theaters.
Check out the Trailer:
Should be interesting to see more of Jackie in a Police Story kind of film instead of just the campy family stuff he tends to do for the US market.

That’s not a very good trailer.
i didnt see a lot of jackie chan fighting in that, maybe hes taking a step back from all that over the top fighting
It’s nice to see him working in a violent movie instead of him pissing his stunt work skills away on children films.
I believe this is Jackie Chan’s the non-martial arts drama that I’ve been hearing about for almost a year. The trailer (the terrible, terrible trailer) is very misleading, since it looks like an action movie.
wow.. i already saw this movie like last year. But i must say, this trailer is complete trash and doesn’t do the movie any justice.
Especially with the stupid deep voice guy. The they should have just used the original chinese trailer with subtitles.
when will america every learn…
I saw the movie ages ago too and the trailer really makes it seem a lot worse than it was. Was a decent movie – had a lower budget feel to it sadly. I’d rather see Jackie do more this kind of movies than Rush Hour popcorn flicks.
Yea, me too. I remember hearing about how chow yung fat is mad that there aren’t any good roles for asian actors in america. The only asian actor who has any lasting acting credibility in american movie roles is, Ken Watanabe.
Hollywood needs to start giving asian actors roles that are meant for asian actors, instead of white dudes. and start writing roles for asian actors more often.
The movie looks decent. The trailer makes it look like it has a bit of an indie feel to it that I don’t dislike.
I’m a bit puzzled as to what the story is exactly, though. It has a Japanese name, a few Japanese actors, a bunch of Chinese actors and it’s a “battle for Tokyo’s Underground”, apparently.
So… Is it a Chinese movie or a Japanese movie? ;)
In the early 1990s, the job market in China was extremely poor, so there were alot of chinese people illegally making their way to Japan to find work. However, they weren’t welcomes with open arms. There was a lot of racism and prejeduces toward the chinese immigrants.
Jackie Chan in this movie is one of the immigrants.
I saw the movie today. It was awesome. Great tension, political allegories, and some rather brutal violence. Just a word of warning, it is QUITE long. Still, very enjoyable if you’re looking for a mafia movie.
