Jonathan Winters to voice Papa Smurf

It seems that 84 year old Johnathan Winters will be giving voice to Smurfs once more, as he joins the cast of the up coming live action Smurfs movie.
Winters will always be Mearth – the child of Mork and Mindy – to me, but he did provide some of the voices on the original Smurfs cartoon. Now specifically the aging actor will give tone to the wise and noble Papa Smurf.
The information comes soon after a casting call sheet hit Spoiler TV revealing a little bit about the plot, namely the Smurfs themselves end up in our human world where a first-time expectant mother with an overworked husband finds her house overrun by the miniature blue creatures.
I really don’t like the idea of the Smurfs basically becoming “The Littles” or the original “The Borrowers” – hell, they sound a bit like the Fraggles at this point.
I want to see smurfing Mushroom houses, a magical forest and Jeff Goldblum as a live action Gargamel!!!
Smurf this Smurfs revival. I want medieval era Smurfs dammit!!

I think I agree with you here.
This idea is terrible. Makes me want to smurf the exec who approved it right up his smurf hole.
This is exactly the Littles.
I might prefer Stanley Tucci as Gargamel, but otherwise I am with you Rodney.
(By the way, the site has been really solid lately. Lotta great updates.)
