Catherine Hardwicke to Direct The Girl with the Red Riding Hood

While I am not a Twihard, I will say I enjoyed the second film more than the first, which I suspect had something to do with the plot, but more to do with direction.

And it is that first Twilight Director, who was not picked up to direct any of the planned sequels, that is returning to the supernatural soupkitchen to direct another angsty teen romance with Werewolves in The Girl with the Red Riding Hood.

The adaptation takes a unique look at the traditional Red Riding Hood story but the big bad wolf will be lycanthropic, who instead of trying to eat Red, will be attempting to romance her.

io9.com says:

Catherine Hardwicke will try and redirect teens’ fascination with sex and supernatural beings onto a Little Red Riding Hood picture. With Amanda Seyfried in the lead, the story will put a modern twist on the classic fairy tale, retitling the project The Girl With The Red Riding Hood.

While Seyfried is at the top of her want list, its not finalized just yet.

This just sounds like Hardwicke being bitter about being turfed for the Twilight gig and is hoping to bandwagon onto a similiar supernatural teen romance that will bank more on the popularity of that trend than the director’s ability.

Also… have you seen Hardwicke in interviews? Its just uncomfortable to listen to her talk. She is so creepy and awkward. I have a hard time watching her in interviews, let alone imagining the cast having to listen to her direction every day.

She also appears to be attached to Maximum Ride, another popular teen novel series anticipated to be adapted to film.

  1. Thirteen was a crazy flick! NOT great by any means but a shocker in subject matter and an eye opener for any parent. it stands on its own like “Kids” did and is solid haunting filmmaking IMO.

This little red riding hood pitch sounds kinda cool.

Oh my what a big!……………you have.

cash in on this tween romance/werewolves while its hot.

  2. I very much liked the first twilight, although i saw it without being a fan of the book at the time(and only read from new moon an up), so i am not aware of how well it was adapted, i believe that catherine isn’t major in capturing cgi well, but i think she adds great depth to the relationship aspect of movies with supernatural falling in love with an human. I am basing this on how well the cgi was in new moon but the emotional responses between edward an bella was lacking.

(Regrows a pair)- I also fully agree with rodney on how catherine is extremely creepy while being interviewed, an takes alot of patience just to get thru one with her.

  3. I can’t stand her, she’s just not a good director, and she ruined the first Twilight movie.

Even her claim to fame, Thirteen, isn’t that good.

Why does she keep getting work?

    1. twilight sux in general….again im making the avatar comparison because before avatar came out they said howit was a ripoff of another movie/story that has been done. Well thats probly the main reason for menot liking twilight. Its a complete ripoff and its done in a bad way IMO. The best part about twilight is the 2 main characters least look like emo vampire wannabes….i mean cliche is a good word that comes to mind. Part 2 had nothing going for it. The story goes no where.
