International Friend Nate-O tipped me off to a story that Rourke was signed on to Iron Man 2. I figured it was an out of date story, but I checked it, and sure enough. He is back in the role he was rumoured in before – this time with a rumoured raise – Crimson Dynamo.
Deadline Hollywood Daily says that Rourke got a significant salary bump after Marvel’s previously reported “lowball offer.” According to DHD, Rourke will play “the Russian villain” in the film, which seems to confirm the rumor that he’ll play Crimson Dynamo.
It looks like this was more of a negotiation tactic. Rourke must have had a couple dozen offers slide across his dusty table once The Wrestler yanked him into the limelight again. This likely made him think he was suddenly A-List and that wee paycheque raised an eyebrow.
His role is simply reported as the “Russian Villain” and that he will begin researching his role after he finishes promoting The Wrestler… in Russia. Convenient.
When the rumour came around the first time, I was happy with him in the role of Crimson Dynamo, and it looks like thats where he is going to be.
i predict that Mickey Rourke will be a friggin great villain

You do a low budget serious piece for nothing, you nearly win or win an Oscar, then you go in for the kill and start making action films for big bucks… … Good on em if that’s where the cash is.. Go for it.

I foresee a problem here. I’m gonna be watching his rubbery looking face instead of paying attention to the movie.

Mickey deserves a lot more money. 250 Gees is chump change to him. His dog or the buttons on his suit cost more than. He rocked in the Wrestler so give da man his $$$ to buy his blow.
i always thought that if they had whiplash in an ironman movie theyd change him a bit and make the guy look more athletic and fit…and dynamo more…mickey rourke looking
id rather have some built guy like rourke in an ironsuit not holding a whip…have a guy thats more athletic be the blacklash

I sure hope Iron Man goes to Russia for a spell in this one. We saw him fight one tank in the first film. I wanna see him battle an army of stuff in Moscow Red Square and Rourke too.

Will he ever get another serious, Oscar-worthy role, a la The Wrestler? Because he’s pretty limited in terms of the character he can play in a serious movie.
I’m wondering if he’ll be relegated to supporting roles in action-type stuff…maybe I’m just still bitter about Sean Penn robbing him of his Oscar.
wow some people leave some funny comments….wonder if u even seen milk? i mean i can see why u think he got robbed if u didnt see milk……sean penn had a harder job playing milk then ledger playing joker IMO…but well i seen all of the above movies so my opinion is based on actually watching them lol
oh no, i saw Milk! I liked it a lot! I thought Sean Penn was great! I just thought Mickey Rourke was much better.
Dynamo is a better fit for the story if they wanted to include Black Widow (who still has to be cast) and as for Rourke getting higher salary…that’s fine. For the filmmakers to agree- that says they wanted him all along and would have recast the role in the 11th hour if need be. It would come down to the wire. This is how, I think, it’ll come to Black Widow.
But I also think Rourke would have taken the part eventually- or find another film with Robert Downey Jr. in it. Downey is the right kind of co-star Rourke would need to be around right now.
All the trades are saying that he wont be Dynamo, but rather Whiplash (who is now Russian)
And Scarlett was just announced as Widow.

my predictions consist on who i think will look cooler on the big screen…the story you can always change…so i hope that they dont have the mandarin in this just because hes the main guy…have dynamo come in…the guys awesome

He already confirmed, the Russian villain he will play is Mikhail Rasputin.
Glad to see Mickey getting paid, he was so good in the Wrestler. Just hope he doesn’t phone in the performance though.

didnt shock me…..studio’s were fucking assinine for asking him to be in it for under a mill….sure john u might think its ok…but if i just got nominated for a academy award i too would ask for more.
What a shock. I remember the ‘take it or leave it deal’ people were talking about in here. As if Marvel can hire any actor to play these parts.
That initial deal was a slap in the face. Now Sam AND Mickey are on board after a significant raise. Amazing how that happens!!!!
