The Last Airbender Trailer will have to Wait

Posted by on 04. 12. 2009in News Chat

The Last Airbender, which chose to drop the Avatar from the title as not to confuse it with James Cameron’s film, had a teaser trailer we saw earlier this year. We were promised a full trailer by Christmas, well that isn’t happening.

Filmonic Shares:

Earlier this year The Last Airbender producer Frank Marshall said that we can expect a second trailer for the movie by Christmas, however he has now tweeted that fans will have to wait as not enough effects shots by Industrial Light & Magic are completed:

Not enough ILM shots finished, so LAST AIRBENDER trailer will not debut until Feb…

I think it is wise to admit you are not going to pull it off and delay it until you can instead of rushing out a trailer that looks weak. Could hurt anticipation of the film.

Of course now we have to wait until around February just to see if there WILL be anticipation around this film.

If you haven’t seen it, here is the teaser:

  1. Chris says:

I wonder what this means for the film itself?

  2. Shinobi says:

The show was great except for some lame filler episodes. I hope they do it justice. It ran for three seasons so It’ll have to be a trilogy if they want to be as close as possible to the whole story.

    • Jake says:

Avatar was probably the best ongoing American cartoon yet, but that’s hardly saying much. Our cartoons almost always suck. Avatar just happened to be average.

      • chris....the real one says:

batman the animated series, samurai jack, dexters lab were all excellent american cartoons. but yes avatar was pretty good, n well made

  3. thematticus says:

Looking forward to this one. Hopefully Night does well with it.

    • Darek-T says:

that’s what I’m worried about. The show was pretty much my favorite cartoon ever and I just hope the Shamhammer doesn’t screw it up.

  4. Kel190 says:

I don’t care how long we have to wait as long as they get it right this is going to be a really good movie.

  5. fullmetal_medji says:

Will this movie have a twist? LoL

  6. cloud720 says:

Was there a time when we would see the small picture before the jump?

  7. Kobayashi Maru says:

@ Cloud: there was a time…but budget cutbacks.you understand right?

  8. meli says:

I’m a little disappointed because I want to see more, but yes, I would rather wait and have a good (fingers crossed) trailer than a half ass one. Then have to read a bunch of bitching about how the effects look like shit. LoL Hm, there will probably be some of that anyway. There’s always an “expert” shooting off his/hers mouth somewhere on the internet.

  9. chris says:

maybe they’re pushing back the trailer because they are also pushing back the movie ( Twilight Eclipse and TLA release on the same week).

  10. nixon says:

Okay it’s M Night Shamylan, which is close to my name Sharmillan, anyways

He has been releasing the last few films which are weak and this trailer looks nothing good except the right at the last seconds…

I’m not getting anymore excited over his film since I have no more trust on this fool !

    • AARON says:

Your calling the man who made Signs and Sixth Sense a fool!?

    • David Lopan says:

Agreed, he’s not done anything worth watching since Unbreakable.

      • Jake says:

No way. Signs and Sixth Sense were awesome. And The Village was not a bad movie. You would have to hate thrillers and everything they stand for in order to seriously not enjoy those movies.

      • Rodney says:

Jake, again you cannot dictate why and how someone MUST like a movie.

You make these sweeping generalizations because YOU liked the movie and assume that if he doesn’t that he must not be able to appreciate ANYTHING in the genre?

Then in another comment on another post you criticize someone for saying they generally dont like anime and you presume they have to?

  11. nixon says:

and if you look at where the ship is shooting fireballs, its a weird angle, why is it comming to the camera instead of that little tiny island, even if the angle is viewed different I still find it ODD, unless it’s made for the trailer…

See one mistake already ! lol !!!!

    • Apostrophe says:

The ships are manned by storm-troopers, hence they can’t hit a giant mountain from 1000 feet away.

    • Jess says:

Yeah, that footage is just for the teaser trailer as far as I know. But I agree, it’s funny.

Anyway, I’m okay with them delaying the “real” trailer as long as it will look even more awesome.

  12. Mmmm, Brains says:

As a super mega-fan of the show (the creators made all the animators and production staff watch FLCL, which despite being anime, is awesome)

The reason I hold out hope for this is that M. Knight Shamalamadingdong isn’t writing it; the original creators are. Whew. Disaster averted.
