I happen to think Channing Tatum is great! I saw Dear John and liked it so much I read the book. Backwards, I know. I think the more movies he makes, the more he will take away and add to his acting skills, and this does have some major talent in this one. Plus, my husband loves movies like this -so I'm looking forward to our date night!

OK...Channing Tatum leaves a lot to be desired. But considering the great supporting cast there is clearly something going for him. In picture 2 Jamie Bell (I think he plays Esca-Marcus's slave)is wearing leather. But I agree the light makes it look like demin. The shield looks celitsh and because he is a slave it was problely all he could get hold of...
Thats just my opinion, I am no expert. But this movie deserves a chance, a look at the tralier at least. Sorry about the spelling

Channing Tatum? Gosh no, his acting is horrible. Not sure why he keeps getting starring roles.

I'm not buying the 2nd pic where the shirtless guy is clad in what looks suspiciously like a pair of jeans. It just looks out of place with the rest of the images.

I'm very much looking forward to this film for two reasons:

1. It's directed by Kevin Macdonald, the Oscar winning filmmaker behind "Touching the Void," "State of Play" and "The Last King of Scotland."

2. The book that it's based on is a fantastic read!

I too was skeptical when I first heard that Tatum was given the lead role of Marcus Aquila, but at least he's surrounded by some great talent, particularly Mark Strong, Jamie Bell and Tahar Rahim (who was outstanding in the recent French film "A Prophet"). I'm going to give Tatum the benefit of the doubt and hope that he brings an extra layer of depth to this performance, which is something that has been lacking in his previous endeavors. The material certainly demands it from him.

I am sorry anything with Channing Tatum has turned out in my opinion less than okay or decent. Some would even say his acting is down right awful. I am inclined to agree with those who say that. I have seen most of every film he's been in only because I am a film fan. Out all those films he's been in the only one that was "good" was Public Enemies. I would even cast a vote for a number two pick to a film I haven't seen yet...Stop-Loss. I will have hope for this film if has an amazing story that comes close to the other great Sword and Sandal film like Gladiator, 300, Spartacus, Troy, The Odyssey, Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, Alexander.
