300 prequel to be titled ‘Xerxes’

According to the post below, Frank Miller has started writing the official prequel to ’300′ which will be called ‘Xerxes’. Zack Snyder has already started he is going to be directing a sequel. So which will actually be made?

SplashPage.Mtv Writes:

Filmmaker Zack Snyder has long said that he would not direct a sequel to “300″ until the completion of a new graphic novel from Frank Miller — but based on the latest word from Miller, Snyder might want to get his Spartan armor ready.

In an interview with Hero Complex, Miller revealed that he is not only working on a graphic novel sequel to “300,” but he already has a title in the form of “Xerxes,” clearly derived from the name of the first film’s villain played by “Lost” actor Rodrigo Santoro.

“It’s the battle of Marathon through my lens,” Miller said of the novel’s plot. “I’ve finished the plot and I’m getting started on the artwork.”

If “300″ focused on the tragic defeat of Leonidas and his Spartan warriors, then “Xerxes” and the battle of Marathon would depict the brutal decimation of the Persian forces at the hands of their would-be Greek subjugates. Since Xerxes’ father ruled the Persians at this time, perhaps the new story would be something of a coming-of-age story for the eventual “300″ antagonist.

Regardless of the exact narrative, the status of “Xerxes” as a prequel falls out of line with earlier reports that the “300″ sequel would be just that — a sequel.

“There’s something that happens in history between Leonidas dying at the Hot Gates and Platea,” Zack Snyder told MTV News earlier this year about the possible sequel’s plot. “That’s a year that’s left out of the [original] movie. A lot happened.”

Despite the plot change, fans of “300″ can keep their swords and shields crossed hoping that the graphic novel comes out before too long, with a film adaptation shortly to follow.

I don’t really care which is made first, I will be first in line. But a whole movie about Xerxes?

  1. Dragonslayer says:

I’m still not comfortable with the idea of a 300 sequel and the title just doesn’t work for me.

  2. Jeremy K. says:

I’m not sure how I feel about a move centered around Xerxes, as his character kind of creeped me out; however, if nothing else it will, I am sure, be visually stunning and worth a go in the theater.

  3. I’m not feeling this.
If this is going to be the battle of Marathon, Xerxes has next to nothing to do with it. Miller said “through his lens” which means another fictional account and/or liberties taken, but that’s a bit much. Something wrong with meeting Xerxes’ father, Darius I?

  4. MovieBuffInTheBuff says:

I think Frank Miller might be getting George Lucas syndrome… he has gotten a little too big for his britches and cant help but try and milk to cash cow a bit more.

  5. Soggie G. says:

Sadly I have to say this… But I think Miller has lost his touch. And now it seems like he’s trying to milk has success by rushing the graphic novel and not really taking the time to make a great story.

    Same goes with the movie…

  6. DirkAnger says:

I gotta agree that I’m not jazzed about this idea either. I’d rather watch the story about the 10,000 Spartans at the end of 300 going into their battel with the Persians than the beginnings of Xerxes. He was way too creepy in 300 for me ever to root for the guy.

    • Chris Roberts says:

I agree with this as well, I believe that would be the battle held at Plataea. This battle definetly deserves to be the sequal if youve read about the battle and there would be no shortage of Spartan action.

  7. DirkAnger says:

    battle

  8. Iceberg says:

A whole Movie based on Xerxes would be a big mistake; this will mean the Character will have more Screen time then the Spartans. I can’t see this working at all. One key ingredient they can’t omit is the Macho Spartan persona & swagger interacting on screen….i’m with you Hot Rod, prequel or sequel, I could care less, just please don’t show me Xerxes chilling being pampered eating grapes on one of his jumpoff chest

  9. thematticus says:

Whatever happened to Spartans battling in hell? Thought that would be a good movie.

  10. 420BAND says:

Maybee this guy will keep his shirt on!

  11. Toshio says:

the sequel should include the spartans having dinner in hell…

  12. SlashBeast says:

What? We now have to focus on an androgynous homosexual instead of masculine homosexuals? Get out of here.

  13. Prawn_Guy says:

    I would rather Die………

  14. George the Spartan says:

If it’s a movie about the Battle of Marathon then call it Marathon. If Miller is going to involve Marathon the way he did Plataea and give the Persians more screen time then he should center the plot around the Ionian Revolt and Athen’s support of it which led to the Persian attack on mainland Greece.

I hope with Marathon they do justice to the different hoplites as not all Greek soldiers were nearly naked in combat regardless of what vase artifacts show us lol.

    • Al says:

it’s funny to say that George. I just finished a screenplay called MARATHON. It’s mostly based on the real story.

      Title: MARATHON.

Logline: A tired and wounded soldier recalls his battles in the army and his lost love as he fights his way through the Greek mountains on a perilous journey to warn his fellow Athenians of the invading Persians.

  15. Josh Capirci says:

Guys chill it may seem like a bad storyline but if yu are true fans of 300 like i am than u shud believe in Miller. if the movie id even half as good as 300 it will still be a hit

  16. Dan says:

300, movie was bad enough, it was so comic that Mr Miller should have done Carton movie instead. If Spartan and their ancestor wree so brave, how could 1500 years later, turban headed Turks invade and colonise Greece for 400 years!!!lool Calling the movie Xerxes is not good at all. He hasn’t got anything to do with Marathon!!, it was his father, Darius who led the invasion of Greece , it should simply called Marathon. Its like making a movie about first world war and call the movie Napoleon :)), Miller and Snider are losers who try to make big money by their cheap jingoistic bastardization of history

    • Matt b says:

I’m actually trying to reply to everyone, not just Dan. xerxes was a bad ass. His family was the most diplomatic and kind rulers of the ancient world. He trained nearly as hard as Spartans and killed a lion by himself when he was 16. I think this movie wil be sick.every movie based on a frank miller novel thus far has been amazing, so I have no reason to doubt him. Open ur mind, there’s more to history than western civilizations.

  17. Xerxes says:

Hey guys, enough said about me, I wasn’t that bad after all.

  18. Danny says:

I could imagine maybe a short film centering on Xerxes (like 15-30min.) released as an extra but not a full length film for theatrical release. But yeah with the way 300 ended I find it odd they would go for a prequel instead of a sequel because I know I was not the only one that got amped at that ending shot with that army of Spartans about to go into battle.

  19. Pouya says:

I can not understand why nobody is not calling Mr.Miller a racist.
I’m sure that he is going to tell more lies in this movie.

  20. 2nya says:

Really?!!! Do we have 2 see the same shit again? What a horrible nightmare:-0

  21. gullytiger says:

It’s very sad to see the reaction to this project…Snyder/Miller!!!! I’m sold. 300 was the best colaberation since Rodriguez/Miller that was only surpassed by the Moore/Snyder film…all these fanboys taking adaptions too seriously, transfering the medium to film and re-telling the story for those you don’t read the Graphic Novels is an art in itself…these guys have mastered it.

JUST SHUT UP AND WATCH THE MOVIE
