Space Battleship Yamato: Rebirth Japanese Trailers Online

Even though I was more of a Force Five and Robotech kinda guy, I had a fringe awareness of Space Battleship Yamato/StarBlazers and I just had to share.

26 years after Space Battleship Yamato finished the series, the great space battleship will rise again in Space Battleship Yamato: Rebirth!!

Introduced to American audiences when I was not yet 3 years old, Starblazers was one of the earliest “Japanamation” series on North American TV’s.

Collider lays it down for us:

Set 17 years after the events of Final Yamato, the Earth is once again imperiled. A roving black hole is moving through the galaxy, leaving a swathe of destruction in its wake and it is on a collision course with Earth. A planet-wide refugee operation is undertaken with the goal of getting everyone to the planet Amahr, a quick 27,000 light years away. Unfortunately, the villainous SUS Empire is standing in the way. After the first transports are attacked, Susumu Kodai a.k.a. Derek Wildstar, takes command of the newly recommissioned Yamato and sets out to, well, save humanity.

Due to the copyright battle between Yoshinobu Nishizaki and Leiji Matsumoto, creators of Yamato, some elements of the characters designs and appearance are altered. But the story takes place 17 years later, so that’s all forgivable.

As well as the new Intro

A North American DVD release is speculated for Spring 2010.

I remember it foundly. Luckily, growing up in the bay area one of the local stations had a steady rotation of Anime in English. They went from Star Blazers, to Robotech, to Macron 1 and Captain Harlock (a Star Blazers copy cat).

  8. Kenn says:

The Comet Empire, Sgt. Knox and the Space Marines!

  9. Steve Gauss says:

NO mention of a U.S. release of Yamato Rebirth as of September 25, 2010. Does anyone know anything? Or are our friends over there just so flush with cash they don’t care.
I have NO hope of the live action ever seeing the light of day over here.
