Reliance eyes Dark Void for Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt is thirsty for an Oscar, but he may not get it with this proposed sci-fi actioner, as they tend not to be Oscar bait. But I still want to see him do it!

Pitt is a great action star, and now he may potentially star in a video game adaptation of Dark Void.

We Are Movie Geeks gives up:

Reliance BIG Entertainment, is going to take on the alien world, as it has attained the feature film rights to Capcom’s third person shooter, DARK VOID. The film is being developed as a possible starring vehicle for Pitt.

The video game centers on a cargo pilot who is transported to an alternate reality after crashing in the Bermuda Triangle. He soon finds himself behind hunted by an alien race. Along with a small band of humans, he tries to fend off the alien threat with a cavalcade of weapons and things that go boom.

I have never played the game, so I am unfamiliar with the gameplay, however the plot does sound delicious for an action flick and Pitt is good at doing action, so why the hell not.

I know the mantra is that all video game movies are bad. But no one took comic book movies seriously either, so its bound to happen one day, so I can hope. Maybe its that I am unfamiliar with the game that makes me hopeful as I am looking at the premise as I would any sci-fi action flick and not reacting knee jerk style and assuming it will suck.

Given a good script, the premise has a ton of potential. I look forward to seeing how this shapes up.

  1. In the Comics-Video games thing.

Just saw the original Superman again after many moons and you know what? It’s still great emotional and exciting. seemed that it had more action early once he got the suit on than “Returns” did the whole film.

That and Gene Hackman no less!

  2. Pitt was great in almost everything he’s done .

starting with the stoner from True Romance to the creep in Kalifornia to Legends of the fall to Inglorious.

That said if he doe’s one of these it’s gonna be cause he’s a fan of the source material.

Video Games to big screen hasn’t had their “masterpiece” yet, actually some have got close to “master piece of shit”

But sooner or later they will. some have good storylines and characters and solid plots.

and if you take away Video Game from the titles their just Sci-Fi.

  3. I can’t believe he hasn’t won an Oscar yet. I doubt this movie would put him in consideration, but some rolls he obviously takes just for the sheer entertainment of it. He was nothing less than spectacular in movies like Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club, and Inglorious Basterds. Though many will probably disagree with me, I think he also owned his characters in Se7en, Snatch, Babel, Curious Case of Banjamin Buttons, Assassination of Jess James by the Coward Robert Ford, and so on and so forth. This guy is due an Oscar. Even though Dark Void probably would not be the one to do that, I would not mind him taking on the roll just for the sake of fun.

  4. I may be wrong, but I don’t see him doing this if they threw 50 Million at him. There is a huge difference between Comics and Video Games, and I hate when they are compared. Comics are beautifully translated to film because they are visual stories, where as games are made to be interactive first, story second. Plus come on, the thing I like the most about Brad is he hardly ever picks a bad movie. The guy knows scripts, so it would take a revolutionary/game changing script for him to even consider this.

    1. I’m with you on this. I don’t think Pitt should do it. Video Game movies need to be stopped until someone officially can do it justice. Resident Evil is probably the closest thing to decency with video game/movie translations (imo)

  5. That’s cool. Maybe John theory of video game movies sucking will be proven wrong.

On being hungry for an Oscar, he should at least get a nomination for playing Aldo Raine in Inglorious Basterds. “And I want my scalps!”

    1. So game movies need to start with Bioshock, follow up with a KotOR movie (which could double as a good Star Wars movie), and flesh out the goodness with perhaps a Mass Effect movie, or maybe a good Half-Life movie.

Odds of this actually happening and these all being good movies: nil.
